Gender Wage Gap In America
In the United States, there is a wide gender wage gap mainly opposing women of all ethnicities. According to Shaw and Lee, gender wage gap is, “ An index of the status of women’s earnings relative to men’s and is expressed as a percentage and is calculated by dividing the median annual earnings for women by the median annual earnings for men.” (Susan M. Shaw Janet Lee 497) The overall percentage for women working full time was 77%. Explained by Shaw and Lee, “ Every dollar a man earns, a women earns 77 cents.” (Susan M. Shaw Janet Lee 497) The statistics are even worse for women of color. Women of color are said to only make 67.5 percent of all men’s earnings and 62 percent of white men’s annual median income. It can vary from helping someone that has skin cancer, to removing cyst, and even as simple as popping black heads. Their job is to help patients improve their skin. Currently dermatologist surgery of non-invasive cosmetic treatments are on the rise as well.(clderm.com) It is quite fascinating that they're able to rearrange someones whole face, or body through surgery. Laser treatment is also a common way for treating skin care in this field as well. Of course, this takes many years of schooling and preparation. The average female dermatologist makes $60,000 less then self-employed male physicians and 40,000 less then employed physicians. (medscape.com) The reason for this is said to be because women in this field either work part time or do not have as much experience. The annual salary for this occupation is $339,000. (medscape.com) In addition, they also make an extra $26,000 for non patient care activities.(medscape.com) Both male and females still are not satisfied with their income. According to Medscape Dermatologist Compansion over 50% of both man and female physicians wish they had a higher income.     Throughout the years men have been superior to women in labor and in gender. It’s no surprise that even to this day men are still at a higher level than women. It is a fact that women are paid less than men by a vast amount. During the American Revolution women were mostly at home serving as house maids while men did work labor and brought home the money.
