Gender Roles In Trifles By Susan Glaspell

In the play, Trifles written by Susan Keating Glaspell really showed the aspects of the disrespect between knowledge based on gender. In addition, a similar work of the play known as the short story “a Jury of her Peers” focused on the same issues that are possessed in this work. Now, the setting The Monis Center, Dickson county, Nebraska and the John has been strangled and the police and doing an investigation. His wife Minnie is the one who should be the main person accused of the crime but, since she is a woman the male police officers do not think it is possible for a woman to have that much strength. The police are there and Minnie’s old friend Mrs. Hale and one of the police man’s wife Mrs. Peters. While Minnie is brought to the police station she asked the girls to go and fetch her apron because she needed it, and while getting the apron they saw a strangled bird in which John struggled it because he was upset at his wife. Then, after seeing this the women tie it all together and know that Minnie is the murderer when the cops do not have a clue. Now, One of Minnie’s friends, Mrs. Hale, wishes she could have visited Minnie earlier because she believes she
In this time women were not treated as equals like seen in this play. Th police man were so blinded and afraid of knowing the actually truth that they tried blaming it on anything other than Minnie. The women went into their past to try and find ways to sympathized with Minnie because they know they were treated unfairly just because of the gender. In conclusion, this play Trifles, bring out the real issue of gender difference when they should be known. Thus, men and woman are capable of the same things but sometimes people are too scared to believe it. Now, in 2016 this play still serves as a purpose to look at our past and show how far we have come in making every individual equal and capable of anything they put their minds
