While I may not be a frog, I can very much find myself relating to Kermit the Frog with his phrase, “It’s not easy being green.” One might laugh and say, “Alana! What would you know about what it’s like as a frog?” And the answer is I don’t. But I do know what it means to be a minority, which is what Kermit is; I do not know very many talking frogs. However like Kermit, in American history people have been set back because they were different from what society deemed “normal.”…

The relict leopard frog is a species of frog that has been proposed to be on the endangered species list. The leopard frog’s scientific name is lithobates onca. It was originally a member of the genus Rana, but in 2008 it was removed and inserted into the Lithobates genus. This species is part of the Ranidae family. The typical frog is 4.48 centimeters in length. The top of the frog is usually a mixture of brown and grey with greenish brown spots on the front side of the body. The colors under the top layer of the frog are typically white or yellow. A light line runs from the mouth, underneath the eye, and to the back of the frog on the top of its body.…

With all of the standards teacher have to follow and meet in their day to day decisions in guiding of our children, how can they choose a text to teach in the classroom? If you had this choice to make, how would you decide? With so many books being published every day how do we as educators decide which ones are a good fit in our lessons? In my evaluation of Days With Frog and Toad my intentions are to provide solid reasoning and proof to why this illustrated book would be a good choice for Early Childhood classrooms between the first and second grades. As members of the class Amphibia, frogs may live some of their adult lives on land, but they must return to water to reproduce. Eggs are laid and fertilized in water. On the outside of the frog’s head are two external nares, or nostrils; two tympani, or eardrums; and two eyes, each of which has three lids. The third lid, called the nictitating membrane, is transparent. Inside the mouth are two internal nares, or openings into the nostrils; two vomerine teeth in the middle of the roof of the mouth; and two maxillary teeth at the sides of the mouth. Also inside the mouth behind the tongue is the pharynx, or throat.…

The arthropodan brain consists of three main regions: the protocerebrum, deutocerebrum, and tritocerebrum. The anterior protocerebrum, which receives the nerves of the eyes and other organs, contains centres, or neuropils, such as the optic centres and bodies known as corpora pedunculata. The neuropils function as integrative systems for the anterior sense organs, especially the eyes, and in control of movement; they also are the centres for the initiation of complex behaviour. The deutocerebrum contains the association centres for the first antennae. The posterior tritocerebrum contains association neuropils for the second antennae (of crustaceans) and gives rise to nerves that innervate the mouthparts and the anterior digestive canal. The latter constitute the stomatogastric system, which regulates the intake of food and the movement of the gut necessary for digestion. This system bears a resemblance to the vertebrate autonomic system.…
