It does however provide a refreshing gameplay style that is appealing for all ages and especially casual players looking for an accessible arcade sports game. As Dead Rising did for zombie games, Backyard NBA Basketball has done for basketball games; it put comically zany fun into a game with surreal and crazy action for some serious fun and enjoyable gameplay.

Where the game proves most fun is by including power-ups to use during the game, such as speed boosts and gravity defying jump powers. Of recent basketball games, there is little else outside the NBA franchise so this is a nice alternative that offers both freestyle and street hoop action.
