Freddie Mercury Tribute Speech
Freddie Mercury Eulogy Speech When I was asked to write a speech for Freddie’s memorial service, I didn’t want to do it. I knew that once I got up on this stage today, everything would become real. My band mate, my best friend, has died. At least that is what they are telling me. But, I know that he is not really gone. He will remain in the hearts of people he was close to, and in the hearts of his fans forever. Freddie Mercury is not someone you can forget about. It’s just not humanly possible. He was admired by everyone who was lucky enough to know him, and his legacy will live on for many years to come. When I first met him, I knew that he was someone I wanted to be around as much as possible. He was so vibrant, and always laughing. I remember one of our first gigs. Before we went on, he told me, “Just be yourself and try to make the crowd happy. All you have to do is wear some tight pants and the female fans will be fighting for autographs”, he said as he pulled out a pair of purple spandex pants. I instantaneously blushed and said, “No way, that’s your thing”. He then told me that I just needed to live a little, and from that point on, I did. He influenced me to do what I want, and be who I am without caring who sees. That’s how Freddie lived his life. He couldn’t care less about what other people thought of him. He didn’t live by the rules, and honestly that was my favorite thing about him. It’s inhumane that we are forced to live in a world no longer containing Freddie mercury. This vibrant, and passionately creative man surely couldn’t have been extinguished in the prime of his life? Freddie was denied the privilege of growing old, but in 44 years he packed in enough living for a dozen lifetimes. His head was full of great dreams and the certainty that they could be achieved. At the age of 20 he already lived the dreams. He became an all new person, more fierce and courageous. Perhaps in changing his name

After playing with the band for a few years he decided to leave them and shortly after he did he had an opportunity to audition for another band called “Nirvana” in Seattle. He was hired to play the drums which he did until the band fell apart after the lead singer “Kurt Cobbain” committed suicide at his home in Seattle, Washington. Though he had great success with the band “Nirvana” he found even greater success when he started another band or “Foo Fighters”. Foo Fighters had several hits over the years and much success. One of my favorite songs or the earliest song I recall hearing by them was “Everlong” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBG7P-K-r1Y) . The music video “Everlong” was nominated for best Rock Video at the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards. The first time I heard the song was with a childhood friend or “Chris” who played the song on his mother’s stereo while I was visiting his younger brother and it just clicked. We shared a similar sense of music or style of music so this as well as many other songs favored were similar in nature. I’m planning on going to a Foo Fighters concert next time they are perform locally, I think they will continue to play and release albums just like the Rolling Stones and…

He wasn’t just some junkie that made music, he was a true artist who is appreciated and will never be forgotten. It’s evident what kind of impact that he has left on the music industry, even today in this generation you can ask people of the younger age groups about Marvin Gaye and they will know him because the music and work he put into his master pieces are timeless. “Gaye’s last public performance was on February 13, 1993 performing the “Star-Spangled Banner” at the NBA all-start game in Inglewood, California” (Grow). Today we are celebrating your Bar-Mitzvah, the time that they call the “acceptance of all the mitzvot.” As your older brother, I can tell you that its not the easiest part of growing up, but Dad would want me to say that you must always work your best to realize the importance of being a Jew and too love judaism. In celebrating your Bar Mitzvah this shabbos, and going on in life, you must always remember the core of who you are as a jew and what you represent.
