Four Types Of Courage
Four Types of Courage

In this world people believe that courage is standing up to something. But there is more than one kind of courage. If you think about it, we see many different kinds of courage each day. Courage falls under four main physical, social, moral, and creative categories. In this essay I will explain to you the four kinds of courage and what they mean. I will give examples and how they relate to the type that I will be explaining.. Physical courage is being able to handle things and approach them physically. A good example that they provide in the book is Hurricane Katrina. Police forces hurried to find the survivors in the flooded water. They were not used to that type of situation and had very little knowledge on what to do. They still risked their lives for the general health of all the people they were trying to save. In my opinion that is a great example because it proves how kind some people still can be.
Social courage is something that you have to think about a little bit more. With social courage it is more of a self involvement thing. You have to have to courage to be who you want to be and let people see who you really are. This can be very difficult for some people, others it's like a walk in the park. physical, social, moral and creative courage is what I explained. Although there are many more kinds that are shown everyday that I didn't explain, they are still appreciated just not seen. Being a courageous person is a trait that a lot of people don't know they have until they are put into situations where they have to find out if they have it in them or not. I'm not sure if it is something learned or something that just comes to people naturally. Hopefully my examples can make you think about it and decide for

The dictionary defines courage as a build up of an emotion or adrenaline , to do something that involves you stepping out of your comfort zone. In the film ‘3:10 to Yuma’ we see numerous pieces of courage shown by numerous different people, even people you wouldn't expect to see it from. There is three perfect examples of this in the film, When Will Evans, Dan Evans son, builds up enough ‘COURAGE’ to save his father from being shot in the head by Ben Wade, by holding a gun to Ben Wade, even though he knows that if he gets a chance, he will disarm and possibly kill him, due to him being much fast than william, but he stepped out of his comfort zone to protect his father Another is when the vet builds up enough ‘COURAGE’…

Courage is characterized as mental or moral strength to surpass notions of fear. As demonstrated by Atticus Finch and Mrs Dubose in Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, the development of courage gives the character’s strength and courage to hold their heads high, while fearing none. Harper Lee depicts the theme of courage incalculable amount of times, detailing courage as “ when you know you’re licked before you being, but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what.” (Chapter 11, Page 124) All of the characters have an alternate kind of perspective of what courage is exactly, which will be examined in depth.…

What is courage? According to dictionary.com, courage is the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain etc., without fear; bravery. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, both Atticus and Boo Radley are both courageous through the challenges they are faced with. Both of these men are citizens of Maycomb and create change within their town. Although Atticus and Boo Radley are very different people, they prove to be similar through their acts of courage. Though their acts of courage are similar, they both generate change to different aspects of their lives. Both men change things through their acts of courage, but the changes are drastically different. Atticus’ courage is a long term change, and it will help Maycomb see African Americans as equals and not as inferiors. Boo’s change on their other hand, will be more of a lesson that teaches not to judge a book by its cover.…

To begin with courage is something you can portray when standing up for what you believe in . For instance in the novel Atticus was the rare symbol of courage in maycomb . Atticus defending the Tom Robinson case despite what anyone else in the community had to say . Atticus was not only being courageous by defending the case but because he stood up for what he believed in not only for himself but to set an example for his children . " Because I could never ask you to mind me again scout simply by the nature of the work every lawyer gets at least one case that affects him personally this ones mines I guess. You might hear some ugly talk about it at school , but do one thing for me if you will : you just hold your head high and keep those fists down . No matter what anybody says to you don't .let em get your host try fighting with your head for a change " ( page 76 ) . This quote exhibits Atticus coming to term with the fact that he's going to have to turn the other cheek and not let their foolishness get to him.…

During class, we have had several discussions about courage, specifically as one of the major themes of Gates of Fire. In our discussions, we have mentioned that there are, in fact, different types of courage. We mentioned courage in men, in women, and false courage or pseudoandreia; this idea of different types or grades of courage lead me to this page about developing courage: http://www.artofmanliness.com/2009/02/08/developing-manly-courage/…

Some courage helps you to do simple, everyday affairs, other courage can help you to face your fears, and the rest of courage helps you to do extraordinary things. An example of having courage to do simple affairs would maybe be to stand up for the new kid even though it might not make you seem cool. Having courage to face your fears might be to conquer your Arachnophobia by squishing a spider or to conquer your fear of heights by skydiving. Having courage to run into a burning building and save a baby even at the cost of your life is a great example of having courage to do something extraordinary. One of my favorite examples of being courageous is the story of David and Goliath from the Bible. The story says that David was only a young shepherd boy who had no military training whatsoever and went up to Goliath, who was considered a giant of his time and the best Philistine warrior, with only five smooth pebbles and a sling. David also went up to the Philistine with the courage that God would help protect himself against Goliath. When David stopped, he confronted Goliath then slung one pebble at Goliath, sinking it deep into Goliath’s forehead, which knocked him out, and then he killed him and chopped off his head. This all happened just because David had courage and trusted in God. This story would be a good example of having courage to do extraordinary things.…
