Courage is characterized as mental or moral strength to surpass notions of fear. As demonstrated by Atticus Finch and Mrs Dubose in Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, the development of courage gives the character’s strength and courage to hold their heads high, while fearing none. Harper Lee depicts the theme of courage incalculable amount of times, detailing courage as “ when you know you’re licked before you being, but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what.” (Chapter 11, Page 124) All of the characters have an alternate kind of perspective of what courage is exactly, which will be examined in depth.…
Malala Yousafzai said, “We were scared, but our fear was not as strong as our courage.” To some people, courage is seen in everyday acts of bravery. When a person does what seems to be a brave act during a calamity, without proper training, it is not bravery. It. Is. Courage. Courage is doing something that is dangerous and noble, but not irrational. It should also make you a better person, or the world a better place.…

Courage is being able to have the mental strength along with the ability to understand that you have a moral obligation to face your fears, danger and with stand any difficulties in life no matter how they are presented to you. My historian with courage is K’naan who is a poet, singer, songwriter, rapper and an instrumentalist. His birth name is Keinan Abdi Warsame and he was born on February 1, 1978 in Mogadishu, Somalia. In 1991 he experienced the beginning of the Somali Civil War. He had to witness his family members and friends fall victim to the war. K’naan had also played a short role in the war by participating in the gun violence. He felt (like many others) if you don’t participate, you will die. He has faced need death, from being shot at and walking through bomb mined fields. His mother was able to legally flee with him and his siblings to Canada, only to continue witnessing the minor life styles of the war that was brought over sees. He felt that he had to do something about this dire situation and began to rap to express this need. In 1999 he challenged the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in regards to its failed aid missions to Africa (in particularly Somalia). In 2010 his song “Waving Flag” became the anthem for FIFA World Cup game and video game, which was extremely important for him because it was held in Africa. He has been joined by many artists from around the world in issues varying from the wars in Africa, the Haitian earthquake of 2009, and child abduction/slavery through his song “Fatima”. In 2011 he was given a special recognition from former President Bill Clinton for his global ambassador work. You have the power to stop someone from being hurt or to show them that they are thought…
Having courage means you must care, no matter what. In John Carlisle’s “Mich. Teen Helps Save Abduction Victim’s LIfe” Carlisle says “He could have ignored the woman’s screams for help, could have kept this frightening intrusion out of their house and lives” ( Carlisle 2) This showed that James Persyn cared. He was extremely courageous. He risked his life, to save a stranger. He was her buddy that would have died to save her. Even though she was a complete stranger, he cared enough to be there for…
Courage is fighting for what is right no matter what the cost. Courage is a human concept that involves the very nature of doing something no matter how difficult it is and having the strength to do it. In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Atticus and Mrs. Dubose experience difficult situations but still show bravery. Atticus demonstrates courage by fighting for Tom Robinson despite the racist community he is a part of. Mrs. Dubose demonstrates courage when she decides to die without the use of morphine even if it means she’ll live the last bit of her life in pain. Atticus and Mrs. Dubose are courageous because they do what they think is right no matter the consequences.…
Courage isn’t just exemplified in literature, but in the real world as well. Rosa Parks is a famous African - American civil rights activist who was born on February 4, 1913. The United States called her “ The First Lady of Civil Rights “ and “ The Mother of the Freedom Movement “. On December 1 in 1955, in Montgomery, Alabama, she was on a bus. Parks refused to listen to the bus driver, James F. Blake, when he told her to give up her seat in the colored section to a white passenger because the white section was filled. It takes courage to stand up for your rights, so imagine the courage it took for Rosa to do something like that back then. She didn’t have any legal rights or any form of protection, and she defied the law. She didn’t want to be treated differently anymore, and she thought it was wrong. “ The only tired I was, was tired of giving in,”she said. Rosa wanted to do something not just for herself, but for everyone else who didn’t have the courage to do what was…

To begin with courage is something you can portray when standing up for what you believe in . For instance in the novel Atticus was the rare symbol of courage in maycomb . Atticus defending the Tom Robinson case despite what anyone else in the community had to say . Atticus was not only being courageous by defending the case but because he stood up for what he believed in not only for himself but to set an example for his children . " Because I could never ask you to mind me again scout simply by the nature of the work every lawyer gets at least one case that affects him personally this ones mines I guess. You might hear some ugly talk about it at school , but do one thing for me if you will : you just hold your head high and keep those fists down . No matter what anybody says to you don't .let em get your host try fighting with your head for a change " ( page 76 ) . This quote exhibits Atticus coming to term with the fact that he's going to have to turn the other cheek and not let their foolishness get to him.…

If you ask a class of students to name a courageous person, you will be able to hear a multitude of replies of names of famous people. Have you ever considered having the guts to stand out in the crowd and naming yourself as an act of courage makes you a courageous individual?…
We all have a predefined notion of what courage is, whether it be facing our fears, standing up for a personal belief, or sticking up for another person who may be getting picked on. Whatever definition an individual may have for courage, there probably is some sort of emotion that sparks from their heart. In fact, the Latin word for courage is coraticum. The root cor, literally means heart. So the word coraticum is directly translated as, “an action that comes straight from the heart.” What exactly defines an action from the heart though? Most people probably have this perception of courage as, “people who have a sense of bravery or boldness that fight past danger without showing any sign of fear.” Even though we all have this concept of courage, the world around us is changing, and so is the definition of courage. There is no doubt that courage is a unique word, and we as humans strive to be courageous, in whatever way we depict it in our minds, but the reality is that there are multiple ways of being courageous. An act of courage is always made out to be some noble, heroic action that wins the hearts of many people. There is more than one way to present an act of courage, and we need to open our eyes and realize this.…
As a kid, I watched a lot of cartoons. Some were memorable and had an impact on my life, while some were not. One of the most memorable was a cartoon called ‘Courage the Cowardly Dog’. You can probably see from the title that this cartoon was very interesting. It has had a big impact on my philosophy as I have learnt life facts from watching it. I believe that I wouldn’t be the same person that I am today if I never came across it.…
