Four Forces Of Evolution
The four forces of evolution are natural selection, mutation, genetic drift, and gene flow. Natural selection has to do with adaptation. It preaches that those species that have better adapted to the environment with various traits and just simply their behavior, will be stronger and therefore able to survive for longer periods of time and allow for their genes to continuously be passed on to the next generations of that species. Mutations have to do with adding, subtracting, and deleting of nitrogen bases in the DNA strands. They create traits for individuals that can sometimes be harmful, other times helpful, and on rare occasions be neutral in that the trait is neither an advantage or a disadvantage. Genetic drift is a very randomized force. Those individuals who leave behind more in terms of children and just genes in general have the likelihood of their genes being spread around to those new generations and have things about them carried on long after they are alive. Gene flow is a little different than genetic drift. Gene flow is almost the direct trade of genetics between two or more populations and it works to lessen the amount of …show more content…
It talks about how those who carry both the wild type allele and the sickle cell allele will be better suited to survive than those who just carry the sickle cell allele. This is because those who have both will be able to produce more functioning red blood cells that will help extend life. Especially in areas that contain malaria is where these alleles come into play. If those with the two copies of sickle cell are infected with malaria they almost have no chance to survive due to the lack of functioning red blood cells they contain. Therefore in areas where malaria occurs, people who have sickle cell will have both alleles in order to be able to adapt and survive due to balancing

    Cultural and biological anthropologists have observed that people from India, Asia, and the Mediterranean have a higher percentage of people with one abnormal hemoglobin allele, compared to in other parts of the world where most people have two normal hemoglobin alleles. It's been found that people with two abnormal hemoglobin alleles carry a disease called sickle cell anemia; this disease is known to be circumstantially fatal.
