Food Classification Essay
Nutrition are the substances in food that our bodies process in which enable it to function, by supplying it with what is necessary to maintain a healthy and balanced life. To make sure we get all these nutrients we need a balanced diet, this means that you can eat all foods just best to eat more of some than others. Our nutrition requirement varies from person to person, depending on whether you male or female and you age. Nutrients are the chemical compounds found in food. Food is made up of a complex mixture of nutrients. These nutrients are needed to help us maintain growth, energy and health.

There are 2 classifications of nutrients these include Macro nutrients which is the bulk of what we eat and Micro- nutrients which are small amounts in a variety of foods we eat. The Macro nutrients include Carbohydrates, Protein and Lipids (fat). Micro-nutrients include Vitamins, Minerals and Water.

The nutrient chosen is Carbohydrates. There are two types of Carbohydrates: Simple and Complex. The Complex Carbohydrates are known as the ‘good carbohydrates’. They are the types of carbohydrates that should make up most of the carbohydrate percentage. Complex Carbohydrates have the most amounts of nutrients and are high in starch. Complex carbohydrates are processed slower and released at a moderate rate. Unlike complex carbohydrates simple carbohydrates are high in sugar, some simple carbohydrates include chocolate, lollies, biscuit, cakes and soft drinks. Simple carbohydrates are released all at once in one burst this is due to the fact they are processed faster. Simple carbohydrates are beneficial for a 100 metre sprint.
