Florence Welch's Song 'Shake It Out'
Just two weeks ago I went to a Florence concert at the Bank Atlantic Center to accompany a friend of mine. Little did I know Florence + The Machine was going to be my newest obsession. Florence + The Machine’s energy in the concert flows through your veins, I absolutely fell in love with their songs and such inspiring lyrics. “Shake It Out” stood out the most because I feel it’s so relevant to our teenage lives. Florence Welch, the singer and song writer of the band, describes this song as the “hangover cure” song. Florence claimed that she felt many regrets haunting her and suddenly sitting in the studio while her producer, Paul Epworth, was playing around with organ chords she wrote the song within half an hour. I feel the song lyrics came so easy to Florence because as I state again, this song can relate to anyone and everyone. “I 'm always dragging that horse around, our love has pastured such a mournful sound, tonight I 'm gonna bury that horse in the ground.” From break ups and heartbreaks to deaths, or any personal emotional struggle anyone is going through, this specific line is the inspiration to keep strong …show more content…
The reason I believe the song is crescendo is because in the beginning of the song, it’s the slow and haunting memories bothering Florence and as the song keeps on, you learn to “shake it off” and she starts singing in a happier, stronger tone. Hence why I believe this song has not one, but two tempos. The very beginning of the song where she is acoustically singing with the piano in a dark husky voice has an adagio tempo, as the song gets happier and Florence gains strength and vanishes all her haunts and worried it becomes a very vivace tempo. The pitch held throughout the song is quite high being at an F major scale. The texture in this song is homophonic. Lastly, the instruments being played in this melody are the piano, drums, guitar, and

As the show goes on, Clara sings a song called “The Beauty Is”which is her telling you of what she's experiencing for the first time somewhere new. After she meets fabrizio, and he's fallen in love, he goes on to sing a song in full italian called “Il Mondo Era Vuoto”. This song is all about how Clara fills the “light” in his life that he was always missing. Its truly a beautiful and one of the most passionate songs in the show. The way it is written shows precisie emotions and you can almost understand the message without the text being sung along. Fabrizio asks Clara on a walk in the piazza. There, he serenades her with a fun song “Passeggiata” to show her of the place he knows the best, Italy. As Clara and Fabrizio's love grows, Margaret's and Roys (her husband's) dies. Margaret towards the end of the first act sings a song of falling out of love with her husband and reminiscing on the beautiful times they shared when they were in love by singing “Dividing Day”. This song by far is the most passionate, sad, and most beautiful song I have ever heard throughout the musical theater realm. There are many…

It sounds like a mix of a’capella and opera. The voices in this song sound very high and beautiful. One specific voice stands out to me the most. The very first thing I notice about the music is a certain voice that can be heard in the background. This voice most likely can’t be heard if you do not listen very closely to the background music. If you want to hear what I hear then, I suggest that you listen very carefully. This voice sounds so interesting because it is also the very first voice that you hear in the song. Next, the rest of the voices slowly transitions into more of the…

I have always love horses, and as a little girl one of my favorite movies was Spirit: a movie set in the 1800s about a wild mustang who is captured by the U.S army and embarks on a long journey back home to his family. I loved this movie not only because of the many horses, but also because I related with Spirit’s struggles. When I was very young my parents got divorced and my dad won custody of my little sister and I. At that young age I felt like I lost my mother because even though I still got to talk to her on the phone, I missed her arms around me when I was sad and that special relationships mothers and daughters share. Spirit lost his mom when he was captured and so I felt like he understood me.…

The Twentieth Century exists as the start of the fast paced changing world the human race lives in today. Each decade of the twentieth century possessed its own great characteristics and because of this, each decade left significant changes in music from year to year. The 1920s, ‘30s, and ‘50s lived as three radically different decades based on values, morals and music. The mindset of the people living in these times transpired with completely different ideals and ways of living. Each decade’s music was extremely reflective of the overall sentiment of what was happening historically.…

From Alfalfa’s letter in The Little Rascals, “Dear Darla, I hate your stinking’ guts. You make me vomit. You are scum between my toes. Love, Alfalfa,” to the song Love Stinks by the J. Geils Band, it is apparent that heartache is felt by everyone. It can be experienced and dealt with in countless ways, but its universally-felt agony is what allows poets, singers, and writers to connect with their audiences in such a personal manner. In the poem “Getting Through,” Deborah Pope uses poetic techniques to make a personal experience accessible to a range of audiences. It is a poem of heartbreak that uses the devices of tone, language, structure, and relatability to illustrate the effect love can have on people and how hard it is to give that feeling up, even if it is not returned.…

This is an amazing energetic piece by the presented of these instruments: piano, cowbell, timpani, maracas, voices (soprano, alto, tenor, and bass). The tempo throughout the piece are rallentando and fast tempos. The piece sounded strong, powerful, harmonizing in between the instrument, but also chilling at the sacred movement where it got slow and a bit softer. Overall, the dynamics where mezzo forte, forte, tenuto, crescendo, and sforzando. The word that have been repeated the most throughout the piece was “silliza” with a loud (forte) by the voices singing. I have enjoyed this piece and love it because it sounds really energetic, strong, happy, fun, and exciting. In my opinion, this is an good ending song where all the choirs get to sing together before the concert…

The death of someone loved changes our lives forever. And the movement from the “before” to the “after” is almost always a long, painful journey. From my own experiences with loss as well as those of the thousands of grieving people I have worked with over the years, I have learned that if we are to heal we cannot skirt the outside edges of our grief. Instead, we must journey all through it, sometimes meandering the side roads, sometimes plowing directly into its raw center.…
