I will argue that the movie “Hot Tub Time Machine” is in fact a cult film. Hot Tub Time Machine tells a story of a malfunctioning time machine in the form of a hot tub, at a ski resort. The hot tub takes a man back to 1986 with his two friends and one of their nephew. They are taken back in time where they must relive a fatal night and not change anything to make sure the nephew is born in the future. Cult films are my favorite type of movie. They are movies that I can relate to, like when my friends and I go out to parties and just have and forget about all our stress. I enjoy being able to watch a movie over and over again and still find it just as funny as the first time I saw it. Some people believe that Hot Tub Time Machine is not a cult film because they do not find it humorous because they cannot follow the plot. However, cult films may be best described as being “so bad it’s good.”(EAA. Time Warp, pg. 278)…

Complacency in everyday life has led to turmoil in many countries. In Germany there was the Holocaust in which nearby neighbors could sit and watch execution from their doorstep. In America during the 1960’s no one had the courage to speak up for African-Americans and their rights. Even though people don’t speak up when they should, you should by any means necessary stand up for what is right. By not speaking up things could only get worse, people can get badly hurt, or the problem could be ongoing.…

What qualities lead to a solid foundation in a successful relationship? Consideration, collaboration, and faith are all solid building blocks in the construction and maintenance of the institution which is a relationship. Without these and other robust components that build up the foundation of relationship it will either fall apart or become derelict and in a state of disrepair. Cooperation, respect, and mutual belief in each other, make John and Ann’s relationship in the short story “The Painted Door” by Sinclair Ross healthier than Liam and Gabriella’s in the short story “Bluffing” by Gail Helgeson.…

“Big stubborn fool – he goes his own way anyway. It doesn’t matter what becomes of me. In a storm like this he’ll never get home. He won’t even try.” This passage is an excerpt taken from Sinclair Ross’ “The Painted Door.” In context, this quote exemplifies the protagonist, Ann’s, inner struggle to put proper faith in her husband, John, whose absence during a devastating storm leaves her brooding, ultimately leading her down the forsaken path of adultery. Ross’ evident theme throughout “The Painted Door,” is mainly centered on the misconduct of infidelity. Contained in the short story “The Painted Door,” Sinclair Ross proposes that Ann’s fidelity is compromised as a result of an internal display of weak character; these traits include her selfishness, her acts of vacillation, and her perfidious qualities.…

    1. After seven years of ever-lurking silence Ann does something she soon regrets. At the end of the story Ann says, “If you knew him though- John would try” (p. 7). So did Ann really know John? I think Ann did know John and she knew that he would come home like he always did. But I think she let herself believe what Steven continued to say which was no one would risk coming home in such a bad storm. Ann always had feelings for Steven, but they were all for the wrong reasons. So I think her act with Steven was her defiance of seven years of ‘ever-lurking silence’ with John. Ann always felt alone with John and I think she thought Steven could give her more than what John had given her, but soon after her act with Steven she realized she was wrong. Ann realized John was a man and there was nothing Steven could give her that John wouldn’t, but by the time Ann realized this it was too late.…
