Five Rivers Of Hades Research Paper
The Five Rivers of the Underworld of the Five Rivers of Hades are the rivers that separated the Underworld. These rivers were:
1.Acheron: which translates to “lacking in joy. Also known as the River of Woe.
2. Cocytus: River of Lamentation which according to Homer’s Odyssey Cocytus is one river that flows into Acheron. It is theorized that Homer saw a river and he felt that the area was so miserable he decided to names the rivers of Hades after them.
3. Lethe: River of Forgetfulness
4. Phlegethon: River of Burning
5. Styx: River of Hate and the most famous of the Underworld rivers, Styx was also a goddess who Homers dubbed “the dread river of Oath” in the Iliad.
