Education: Disadvantages of early age marriage
Marriage has been an important social custom around the world for all mankind. Also, it is regarded as a delight and celebration. In many countries, arranged marriages are still a tradition that has continued from the past to the present. However, this tradition is viewed negatively. In today’s world, the most popular ideas that come to teenager’s mind is to get married even if they have different ideas about it. Marriage is widely accepted by all and no one can stop this social custom because it is the key and the only way to complete the life in the best way for the offspring. Furthermore, marriage can give a lot of stability in any connection and relationship between two people. On the other hand, one of the bad traditions of marriage is early marriage which indicates to the marriage of the children aged below 18 years is not usually a good idea. Whatever may be the advantages of marriage early, the fact remains that there are certain effects to be faced if someone gets in to matrimony early like problems with responsibility, health and bringing up children.
The first effect that early marriages seen are the problems that come from responsibility which has to be accepted from the couples at young age, such as houses hold duties, commitments and child rearing. Most often, when a young person is married, normally, everyone supposes a huge responsibility from them (Adam, (2009)). Often the people who are married early have low in maturity level. Even if some young people have a sensible adult way of thinking that is not enough to let those young people get married. That is because they are usually not ready for these roles and this heavy and ponderous burden. That is because the pressure which comes from the huge of increasing responsibility which cause of lots of problems and sometimes divorce. Also, they do not have stability (Hamilton, (2012)). When the parents are still young, that means they are often forbade from their education, so they do not have a sufficient education and experience from their young stage to earn, teach and help their children. As a result, the parents who get married early will feel a sense of hopelessness because they cannot provide for their children. So, early marriage usually has many problems for the couple. In the end, people should know the big responsibility that they will face when they get married, and if they do, they should not be sorry after that and should not let these problems weaken them and leading to divorce.
The second faced by young married couples is the negative health impacts. Many girls get critical health complication, and some even die because their bodies are not biologically and physically ready to give birth. It is sound that the main cause of early marriage is poverty (Ashraf, (n. d.)). In families with poverty, girls are an economic burden and their marriage to an old man will benefit them without thinking about the girl’s health. In fact, early marriage affects the health in both the pregnant mother and the fetus. Moreover, it really increases the mother’s chances of felling hopelessness and unhappiness. The most important point that if a woman gives birth in early age that will put here directly in danger of increased risk of dying and complications during delivery (Svenson, (2000)). Also, women who are married early are more prone to contracting a sexually transmitted diseases and the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Furthermore, this will affect the offspring pregnancy. When young couple marry early, they should keep adequate spacing between each child birth to be safe, reproductive to decrease the risk for illness or even death. It is also evident that reducing in child marriage will help to ensure more children survive in to adulthood (Toumi, (2009)). In this cause, early marriage creates a direct problem for mother and child’s health. It is recommended for young parents to be careful about their health to ensure that they do not have bad health effects on their lives. So, even if two couple married, they must be careful about their health to make sure that they will not have bad effects in their lives.
The last effect which is particularly important is bringing up children. If couples get married early that will increase the number of their children due to longer child-bearing age. When the parents are young, the knowledge of child care is limited (Stique, (2003)). Every young person need advice and help but the young couple do not have the necessary guidance or experience on the upbringing of children. As a result, they are not able to provide suitable care for their children, and the children sometimes end up becoming a burden on the young couple. Because of that, they prefer to bring someone to stay and look after their children. The children also get limited time with the parents and learn very little as they grow; thus their character and personality becomes unbalanced or negative. The caretaker for the children is responsible only for the feeding grooming the children to a limit and the child fails to learn their own culture, family values and other critical elements of a family home. Moreover, early marriage causes an increase in the size of the population which will also increase the unemployment and poverty (Svenson, (2000)). This huge number in population, results in higher children being uneducated, more children growing up without proper family or society values, higher unemployment of these children as they grow up. So, the young parents must from now think and care about what will happen in the future. Also, they should have enough knowledge about the married life and nurturing children in a safe way.
To conclude, early marriage is faced almost bad effects and a lot of disadvantages on family the society, such as the problems which come from responsibility, health and brining up children. Even marriage is necessary for human race to grow; we must learn impacts of early marriage because it is still a violation of the human rights. In this situation, the first part that could help to find some solutions is through the governments who can help and give their people the important and necessary information and spread awareness about this tradition and its negative impacts. The second part which can help is the family itself, because the parents should know that they must not allow their daughters marry at early age. Marriage is a great idea and everyone needs to wait for the right time to form this institution with their life partner. So, do not let the bad tradition impact you, live with happy days.
