Film Analysis: Underage Drinking

Based on the movie showed in the curriculum, underage drinking is such a common phenomenon in the college campus that approximately eighty percent college students drink alcohol and half of them consume it through alcohol abuse. The film introduces and analyses minor’s drinking issue though three aspects: the causes of college drinking, negative consequences brought by it, and some solutions to subtract underage alcohol consumption. As for the reasons why college students have high incentive to drink alcohol, I have an unforgettable experience towards it. Meanwhile, the consequences are also different based on victims’ gender because there are some double standards for them. In China, we also share similar opinions toward this question such as the public criticism about alcohol abuse is more mild for men compared to women. I suppose this kind of bias come from the public common value that women should have more moderation and self-regulation so that those who indulge alcohol are more likely to behave dangerously. On the other hand, girls are also more vulnerable in drinking environment, especially meeting sexual abuse. It shocks me when I acknowledge that more than 97,000 students are victims of sexual assault and more than 90 percent of them are female. Although sex is one of human original impulses and is more likely to happen when people lost clearly conscious, the damage to female caused by it is marvelous which may ruin their rest lives. Moreover, some evil students even intend to take advantage of girls by the means of alcohol, through which they can also release the guilty and responsibility.
