Few teams have gone from irrelevance to significance as quickly as the newly (re)christened Los Angeles Rams.…
Miss Evers was truly acting in the best interest of her patients. She truly cared about them and when times became tough, she stood by their side through the entire study. In the movie, she believed that she honored her oath and gave them all she had. Miss Evers should first do no harm. After she found out about the withheld treatment, she continued to follow through with the study; even though she knew Syphilis would kill her patients and that Penicillin could treat their illness. I believe she advocated for the patients when she found out about the Penicillin, but the doctor whom she trusted felt the study was necessary for the greater good to prove it’s not an African American disease. I felt like he made her feel guilty, because he knew…
In the movie The Rookie, directed by John Lee Hancock, the director tells a story about a high school baseball coach from Texas named Jimmy Morris. Morris’s dream throughout his life was to make it to the big leagues and play with the very best in the game. He faced multiple challenges that tried to hold him back from his dream. One of the challenges he faced was his dad, his father disapproved of him playing baseball and didn’t support him playing at a young age. Another big challenge was the town Morris’s family moved to, they didn’t care for baseball and there was nowhere to play. In the end, an injury ended his career and he knew it was time to give it up. Eventually, Morris got married and had three children,…
The feature presentation we viewed in class was a movie I thought I would never see in my life time. Learning about the term “Hermaphrodite” and the actual story about why people use that particular term to describe a human being always struck my mind, and after seeing the film in conjunction with the reading the book Testo Junkie I am coming to grips with the term. That word is also used to describe the main character in the story Phoebe, a women who has mens chromosomes.…
Soaked, little, and naked is how the viewer finds Susanna in the middle of Girl, Interrupted. Or rather, soaked, little, naked, and hysterical. A state James Mangold utilizes to further illustrate his message. The film serves as a vehicle for Mangold to discuss madness and the society it exists within. Valerie, the asylum’s registered nurse, throws Susanna, the film’s suicidal protagonist, into a tub filled with water in order to snap Susanna out of her depressed state. Susanna lashes out at Valerie with every hurtful vulgarity she has within her. Despite this, Valerie remains calm and collected. In this interaction between Susanna and Valerie, madness is portrayed in its most basic form; it is an ongoing battle between the individual and the environment surrounding it. The individual is a victim of his environment, overwhelmed into regurgitating the detritus surrounding him that are readily filtered and suppressed by those deemed sane by society.…

This documentary is about eight women that share their experiences of what they have faced in their careers. Other females take even lower pay just to have that role in the “show or movie.” Further, another actress discuss that they have faced discrimination in certain point of their careers for instance; in order to participate in a new cast, they have to be a certain ethnicity, age, height, weight, and physical appearance. I will be writing about 50 First Dates starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. This movie is about a girl who gets into an accident that results in brain damage. Then she experiences a form of amnesia called “Goldfield’s Syndrome” according to the movie. Basically, Goldfields syndrome doesn’t allow Drew to form new memories, but doesn’t erase what she knew before the accident. She can remember up to one day, then she relives the next day as if it was the first day after the accident, over and over again. The movie has its strengths and weaknesses in accurately portraying the memory. For the most part, I believe the movie did a good job portraying it.…

Growing up, Toya never knew her biological father. Instead she lived with her mom and stepfather. Toya would often see the two arguing and eventually it came to her stepfather beating her mother up on his drinking binges. Finally her mother getting so tired of this abuse grabbed her two daughters and took shelter. Although, once Toya’s mother could not afford the nightly shelter fee she arranged for her girls and herself to stay with a friend. When she went home one day to get the girls’ clothes her husband strangled her to death. Toya walked in the bathroom to find her mother dead on the floor. After the murder of her mother, Toya and her sister were sent to a group home and later to their aunt’s house. Toya was sexually abused by her stepfather who had a huge effect on her. She later became pregnant and gave birth to a boy during her junior year. This ruined a lot for her in school. She was now going to study at home, return to high school the next year and attend college. “I didn’t have time to think about tomorrow. I had to survive today,” (47). Her plans were completely ruined when both her aunt and cousin kicked her out. She could not graduate from high school but instead got her GED and will attend college with the help of her church.…
By watching the movie My Girl, I believe this movie is covering the stage of middle childhood development because the main characters, an 11 year old girl and boy, do many things that a child would do or develop during this stage. The developments the movie shows are physical and cognitive, and personality and sociocultural.…
The film “Working Girl” illustrates the feminist fight and struggles of women in the work force in the 1980s to the present, every contradiction relates to the main problems that women face. The two main women characters in “Working Girl” represent the two types of stereotypes of women that establish themselves in the corporate world, Kathrine Parker and Tess McGill. Despite the film being an inspirational feminist story, the writer Kevin Wade created a love plot between the main character, Tess McGill and a side character, Jack Trainer. This side love plot takes away from the main tone and contradicts the original goal of the film, to inspire women to break barriers. The movie did not require this love trope, if the film had a stand alone…
