Filipino Films
Filipino films? Why not?

Most of us would prefer watching American movies than Filipino ones. When we are in the cinemas, I noticed that there are more people paying to watch American movies instead of supporting locally made ones. For most, they better understand movies spoken in English than in Filipino. In addition, for most people, the quality of American movies is better than Filipino movies. However, there are some people that think otherwise but sadly majority of Filipinos think this way.

Because of this issue, I would like to see Filipinos watching more Filipino movies than American movies. Firstly, I would like to see people lining up to watch Filipino movies. Secondly, I would like to see Filipinos going to cinemas to watch Filipino movies and actually understanding it. Lastly, I would like to see people consider Filipino movies and see its cultural value. In fact, there are a lot of indie-Filipino films that have a great plot, great quality and most of all it gives us a lesson on how to be truly Filipino.

To address this issue, as a student, I will watch and support Filipino movies. Furthermore, I would convince my friends to watch Filipino movies. For example, I would convince my friend in Iloilo that prefers American movies than Filipino movies. Another way of addressing this issue is by convincing my friends that by watching Filipino movies they will be able to improve their Filipino. In addition, I would look into the cultural connection of Filipino movies and try to find out if some practices depicted in the movie are actually being done today or in the past.

As a professional, I will promote Filipino movies in my business. I plan to have my own spa, so, I can show Filipino movies to the people that go into my spa while waiting for their turn. I will find Filipino movies that have English subtitles (original copy of course) and show it too my customers with all legalities included. In this way, those who cannot understand Filipino

The Manila Metropolitan Theater was once the core of cultural life in Manila before it was ruined by the World War II. It stood full of pride despite being roofless after all the assaults of the war beautiful on its own but less taken care of. It was “a building that rises on the wings of a song”.1 Way back 1920 our country despite being on the Far East already had a metropolitan capital yet it had no theater that is at level to it being a metropolis. Filipinos then at that time had heightened cultural awareness. The lack of a theater to the metropolis was ceased by Manila’s Mayor Earnshaw as he forms a committee to prepare the groundwork for the project on September 1928. On the 27th of December 1927 stocks for the theater were made available in order to raise funds for the construction. The construction pushed on the first quarter of 1930, on the 10th of December 1931, the theater was opened. The very modern…

Balio focuses on the external changes, or changes in the lifestyle of the average American, an explanation that promotes a simple attrition in the quantity of films viewed by the regular person. Contrarily, Ray is more interested in the changes in the way that Americans received the movies, and as his title suggests, this explanation promotes a belief in the average film viewer’s disillusionment in the movies themselves, not the activity of seeing them. As a direct result of these different casual emphases, each author must look for the industry’s reactions in different places. While Balio’s beliefs about the declining audience lead him to examine exhibition changes that were made to regain the audience, Ray’s beliefs guide him towards changes in the production of films, to better cater towards “modern”…

I agree that Asian Americans are not present in film in any meaningful way. Limited roles for Asians were shown in the media, and most of them were stereotyped as martial art masters, nerds lacking appropriate social, or people from very poor classes. These negative images really affect the lives of Asian Americans in this country since media stereotypes shape people’s perception about Asian Americans. Underrepresentation or misrepresentation of Asian Americans in film does lead to the racism and discrimination that Asian Americans still face in our society.…

If we look into the history of the movie industry we will find that the government intervened in the 1940’s in the movie industry. With that intervention it changed the way movies were produced in some critics’ opinion for the worst. Critics will tell you that the quality and content of movies have plummeted when the movie industry is compared with the Golden Age and the way it is today. Producers realized that in order to really make the business as a whole more profitable, that they needed to be able to own and be in charge of the whole production process themselves. (www.mises.org) Over the years the movie industry has changed in the way the American culture has changed. In the beginning movies were wholesome, showing the dynamics of the family just to provide entertainment for families. Overtime the industry started to incorporate sex, violence, and cultural differences just to be able to keep the public interested in the movies that were produced. (www.mises.org)…

Why you may ask? Movies do not encourage you to do anything except to watch and enjoy, which is not necessarily a bad thing. People would like to have every face of every character in a clear and visual, so that they would not have to think how this character may or may not look like. Many people view movies as a source of relaxation and peace. Movies also gives you the pleasure to experience the new technology of visual and sound effects that many find very interesting. Another point why a lot more people watch and wont read is the amount of time spent in whether reading or watching, it differs from person to person but as I can see; the majority of people would like to get to the end quicker. They attract in a way that you could not imagine for a very short period of time. On the downhill. Movies have stole the spotlight of every magazine, billboard, and the public view. For example, you can see that a major topic in peoples conversations nowadays is the wedding of this actor to that actress. It sounds ridiculous, but unfortunately it is true. The media found a topic that would not stop giving away headlines. They simply can brainwash the way you think, speak, and communicate it two…

Hypotheses focus on the three key dimensions of culture: beliefs and value systems, material and goods, and language. Craig, Greene, and Douglas test hypotheses with a hierarchical regression model specifying the impact of both film-level and country-level independent variables on box office receipts. Films have to be understandable, provide insight into all character's personalities and roles, and quotable. They can be something that sparks laughter, helps us grow, terrifies, or simply entertains. We do not want to have our time wasted or feel that seeing this movie could have hurt us by hindering us from another more important or enjoyable activity. Both of us enjoy movies with an exciting storyline or seriously cool visual effects. A movie does nothing for the audience if the acting is amazing but the story is lost in the first five minutes. Good acting is much appreciated but with out a decent plot, it really has no true impact. Furthermore, movies will generate particular moods and feelings and certain films are more appropriate for, lets say, dates than for a guy's night out.…

The movie is about two writers of the film who seek to make a film or documentary to show the real events in the life of the national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. Not just an ordinary movie about Rizal's life, but a film that depicts the issues about his heroism that most Filipinos have not been aware of. This became a problem for the writer of the movie, what would be the main subject of their film or documentary. Rizal's life has been filmed by foreign directors, and not to liken their projects in the pre-movie they want to vary the angle. Another problem they have is how they write and how they can communicate to appropriate viewers the message they want to convey.…
