Fight Club Kyle Shaw Character Analysis
A young adult was in love with the movie Fight Club. Kyle and his friends made movies, fought, and acted like they were the actors from the famous movie. “‘I thought that he thought he was Tyler Durden,’” (Gendar, Burke, and McShane 2). One of Kyle’s friends reported that statement towards the media saying how much Kyle idolized the main character of Fight Club. Kyle had threatened classmates with knifes and was an extremely violent teenager. He plotted his plan accordingly to the famous 1999 movie Fight Club. This incident happened on Memorial Day in New York. Kyle’s homemade explosive device damaged a sidewalk bench and shattered windows at the coffee shop. Shaw was charged with “felony charges of arson and criminal possession of a weapon” (Gendar, Burke, and McShane 2). Being obsessed with a movie is not a reason to bomb a coffee shop and act like the main character. Kyle acted like Tyler Durden, the main character from Fight Club, ever since he fell in love with this old movie. In Fight Club there is a similar incident where they explode a bomb in a public place. This part in the movie drives Shaw to blow up a sidewalk bench and some windows. “His creation of a crude homemade bomb was motivated by Pitt’s turn as anarchist Tyler Durden” (Gendar, Burke, and McShane 1). This quote refers to Kyle planning his mischief similar to his favorite movie. Kyle and his friends made fighting movies and acted like they were the actors. Kyle was a violent kid; two kids in his grade have reported to authorities on how he pulled and threatened them with knifes. Kyle Shaw blamed the movie to make him corrupt because he believed that he was Tyler Durden. “‘His statements indicated he was launching his own Project Mayhem,’ Mr. Kelly said, referring to a plan in the movie, hatched by the protagonist of the film, to sabotage corporations by destroying property” (Tao and Chan 2).
