Field Placement Tip Sheet Paper
The three categories from the “Field placement tip sheet” that correspond with the areas of interest is the Youth Services, Family and children’s services, and also Faith based services. Youth services is definitely an area that I am drown to having experience working with youths. My desire is for youths to have what I didn’t have support and someone to tell them they can do it and despite what society tells them they are beautiful. Being forced to do things I didn’t want to, bullied, survived depression and suicide. I think I have something to offer as I mentioned I was indeed colonized as in I believed that being white was normal and everything else is Ghetto; which also affected my esteem. I want to be an ally to youth mainly racialized and black youths to be specific help them to believe in themselves. …show more content…
I want to be an ally to all families and provide support where needed so children don’t have to end up in the system. As our professor mentioned in class black children in specific was over represented in the children’s aid. Prior to I had no idea there was so many black children in the system that was a revelation for me (Hylton, 2016). And I no longer want to be ignorant but acknowledge that there is indeed a system of whiteness and colonialism that affect our practice; “as the book states we must recognize the rights and the needs the clients to make their own decisions according to the practice of Self-determination (O'Hara, Weber, & Levine, 2016)”. I believe strongly that the rearing of one’s child should be given to the parents and there is no Universal way or norm of rearing a child; every culture is different and other cultures should not be
