Sensory play and sensory devices have been around for a while now, and have been manufactured in order to help create a sensory input to calm and focus children with ADHD, ADD, or autism. Furthermore, are fidget spinners productive or are they just a distraction. Now, I tend to fidget a lot, I press my fingers against my palms, twiddle my thumbs, and sometimes, have a hard time focusing. This is only when i’ve been sitting a desk for a while, and I constantly feel the need to be doing something productive, or I feel like i’m wasting my time. The science behind fidgeting actually isn’t very complex. Said by Roland Rotz, “If something we are engaged in is not interesting enough to sustain our focus, the additional sensory-motor input that is mildly stimulating, interesting, or entertaining allows our brains to become fully engaged and allows us to sustain focus on the primary activity in which we are participating.” For example, If you are fully engaged in watching a baseball game in the bottom of the 9th, I’ll bet you're not fidgeting a lot because you're focused …show more content…
I used it yesterday and today during science. One thing that i've observed, is the laser sharp focus that comes out of it. The delightful feeling of the spinner spinning in your hand, is different than trying to focus your brain on one task. Another thing that I noticed, is that when you tuck it away in your backpack, Your hand feel almost like it misses the spinner. Almost saying that you're brain was so hard wired to spinning it, that it became something not in your main focus, and the 1st priority did. Like how when you drink water, your thinking more about getting the drink to your mouth, not how it’s going to travel down your throat. This is only my opinion though, others might have different things to say about the fidget spinner. Although from personal experience, it has help stay of the procrastinating
