In this essay I will be writing about texting and exploring the view that texting can be a very creative form of language use. Firstly the first text was sent by Neil Papworth saying ‘’Merry Christmas’’.This then introduced texting to the world as over 18.5 billion texts are sent each month. So this shows how popular this has become. Also over 68.7 million texts are used globally.62% of people use text to communicate with friends, so this shows that conversations concluded emotion as it’s a very non formal as your talking with your friends.Once again this backs up the way texting can be creative also the text limit is 160 characters so you can say a lot when texting.
One such technique is emotion,this is also known as emoticons.Emoticons are used when someone wants to tell someone how they are feeling and that they are not so serious or if they are having a joke they can include a wink face so they know their being cheeky.For an example in data set 2 Beth says ‘’gyaoh!!!:)xxx’’.Firstly this indicates that she is using imitialism which I will further explain later on,but the smiley face which she uses at the end of her sentence shows that she is not serious as she is saying’’get your ass over here’’.So this makes her friend know tat she is not serious by indicating a friendly emoticon.This is also showing how she is feeling,which is happy without her actually saying ‘’im feeling happy’’.
Another technique is imitialism, this Is when you use the start of each word and only use the letters, for example in data set 2 Elly says’’wuu2’’ this implies to us that she is trying to say what are you up to, this saves keystrokes and time as teenagers will recognise what it means as they have been brought up with texting.This is very creative as it shows what textism can do.
