Fet Tapping Research Paper
Feet tapping. Nerves juggling around in my stomach. Thumbs moving swiftly across my phone, giving myself a small chance of keeping my mind occupied. But I knew too well that nothing was going to eliminate my nerves at this moment. In a few short hours, I will be on my own with complete strangers for the whole week. To most 15 year olds, going to a stay-over camp for a week wouldn’t be something to lose sleep on. For myself, signing up for a Cross Country Camp was equivalent to being on a season of Survivor. It was crossing a line of independence and social interaction that I was never willing to cross until that moment. The thought of being out of the comfort of my own community seemed unfathomable. Once I realized that I had held myself back …show more content…
We instantly connected after a few minutes of conversation and we continued to introduce ourselves to everyone on our floor. As the night went on, everyone was finding who they fit in with, and my roommate and I became very close with three girls down the hall. Throughout the course of the week, we ate our meals and attended the nightly activities together. When I met my running group for the week,we were all able to make relationships with each other because we all shared the same ability for our passion. Running together twice a day, sharing memories and tips made us realize we were all like long lost teammates. Throughout the whole week of camp, I learned so much about myself that I never knew. A different side of me was able to unleash without the familiarity of my family, friends, and hometown. During my childhood, I never had the chance to make relationships with people completely on my own, and knowing I could do that so easily made me realize I am a lot more independent than I ever thought I was. Attending this camp gave me the confidence to be on my own, try new things and not let fear keep me from experiencing new places and people. I grew tremendously as a person throughout my seven days at camp, and it gave me reassurance that I am ready for the next chapter of my life. Summer camp is a fun way to get away from home for a week for most teenagers. For me, I was able to prepare myself for the road ahead and it gave me the certainty that I am ready for

Friday. T minus 15 hours till the last day of camp. The Saturday volunteer cancelled. My game plan was crumpled up and trashed. “Why hadn’t I thought of backup plan?” I asked myself, on the verge of pulling out my hair. I hadn’t taken into account all the variables and now I was receiving the repercussions. I had no idea becoming the Transportation Coordinator for a camp would be so stressful.…

The day was sunny and bright as I entered the iron arch. Rocky River Ranch it read. Little did I know that after walking through that arch my life would never be the same again. I was only 12 years old and I thought I was simply going to another summer camp. Rocky River Ranch is a little slice of heaven in the middle of the hill country in Wimberley, TX. I have grown up here and made lifelong friends. Through this all-girls camp I’ve also learned independence and gained a deeper appreciation for friendship and sisterhood. As an only child, the feeling of camaraderie with others in a familial sense is not one that I felt. While I had fellow female cousins, I never had true sisters. Rocky River Ranch is a special place where I learned the importance…

Camp Young Judaea is home, it is a community that has embraced me since I was a young child. Every summer I attend this amazing place and take in the entire camp experience, the good and the bad. Camp is where I grew up and learned many things, and I couldn’t imagine my life without it. The people that I have gone to camp with are some of my best friends, and the counselors are always there for us. The activities are always fun, and whenever we start cheering, singing, or just plain shouting, we become a close community.…

I was a camp counselor at Camp Wabikon ‒ a co-ed overnight summer camp located in Temagami, Ontario for children who are 6-15 years of age. Along with teaching Red Cross swimming and lifesaving and Tennis, I was my cabin's 'parent' for six weeks. Therefore, I was present with the children at all times. In essence, I was the leader of my cabin's the physical, social and mental development. The main things I learned were the importance of time management and organization , as I had to plan lessons for swimming and Tennis while taking care of my cabin; conflict resolution between campers; and the ability to plan and foresee events (I had to plan camp-wide events and activities for all campers).…

I felt like a fast hiker, I liked leading the group and I walked faster than others because I was so eager to get up the mountain. Some of my classmates complain too much. The girls showed no self reliance they always must be together and could not do anything alone. I learned that camping made me feel very bored and that there can be a lot of annoying things in the woods.…

When I was sixteen, I attended to a pre-college summer program for three weeks. When I arrived, I had a dorm room, a roommate, and seventy-nine strangers to become acquainted with. We had all come for the same general reasons – we wanted to learn more, experience more, and become at least slightly prepared for what college might be like. We attended classes and learned about new topics, but…

When my mom first asked me if I would like to go to a sleep away camp, I was not sure if I could be away from my family for 2 weeks but my family really must have wanted to get rid of me. They kept on encouraging me to go, eventually, I was convinced, it does not hurt that 2 of my close friends were going too. Before I left I had to pack for a very long time it felt like forever. I did not know it then but I was packing all the wrong things. When the time came for me to get ready to drive up to North Carolina I was so nervous that I may have chickened out and staid at home. But at the same time I was ready to be there and exited. During the twelve hour drive my friend and I could not stop talking about all the possibilities. we had looked online a ton to see what the camp would be like. There were, mountains a huge lake and even more fun activities! Every sport you could imagine of was there. The closer we got to North Carolina the less nervous and more exited I was getting. That night it took forever to fall asleep all of the possibilities were flowing through my head, what if it wasn't fun at all but what if I had an amazing time and never wanted to come home? The next morning when I woke up we had to drive for another 3 hours to get to the camp. 3 long hours later we had arrived and I was getting more exited and less scared of being away for so long. when I walked In to the camp with my mom, my friend, and his mom, I was…

The camp consisted of girls from all over the world, including Kenya and Brunei. At the age of 13, I traveled from North Carolina to India independently. Traveling alone gave me the opportunity to spend time with myself, and rely on myself. It gave me a sense of pride and contentment. I had experienced loneliness most of my life, but it was different when I was sitting alone in an airport for 12 hours at such a young age. The traveling experience itself helped me mature and become more…

The truly great thing about camp is that it encourages independence while supporting the parents' values. When my kids were in elementary, I was a single parent. I had a lot to teach them and I relied heavily on my family and community to help me. Camp was part of that community, reinforcing the lessons I tried to teach my children at home. And every time I hear someone say that my son or daughter is a "good kid", I know that it is in part because their camp helped raise them. Not only that, but camp makes the learning painless, fun even.…

The step I took as I entered the camp I was in awe of the tall, wooden trees stand in front of me. Also the mountains high above the trees made the scenery perfect. It felt like I was staring into a picture frame but this time it was real. Second thing I would like to give approval as I have stated before in paragraph one, it moves kids to go outside to get some fresh air. It lets kids get some fresh air outside and not be trapped inside the house playing video games. Other than this approval most of my comments seem to be more about my disapproval toward this camp. As a continuation of my disapprovals I would have to say that unlike other family vacation spots you are able to sleep in a comfy bed with and a room that has its own air conditioning but here you do not have any of that. You actual have to sleep in a wooden cabin the has windows with no screens so bugs and mosquitoes can be crawling on you while you sleep. There are only two plain mattresses that can only be shared (example: one mattress for the children other for parents.). Also at night it becomes freezing cold there is only one quilt per bed to be shared with the other people with you so half of the night your left…

For many Americans, going to a summer sleep-away camp as a child is an experience to be treasured well into adulthood. Present and former campers often speak of the experiences and the friendships that resulted from their time at sleep-away camp as some of the most important and meaningful ones of their lives. Critics, however, often view summer sleep-away camps in a very different way, insisting that they are elitist and that the children who are sent there miss out on valuable bonding time with their parents and the friends who live in their hometowns.…

Until a few years ago, I had never gone on a backpacking trip or overnight. I would never have guessed that I would very much enjoy the experience, or that I would ever want to do it again, so I was uncertain about how I wanted to do the trip, until I realized that most of the good I get out of backpacking comes from the views and the people I’m with, rather than the hiking. I realized that I could hike to a camping spot, set up camp, and just hang out around there for a couple days. I thought about…

    football camp

Football camp this year was easy, especially for me. As a kicker and punter I did not do much hitting or running any drills or anything like that. I really just kicked and punted at the beginning of practice then sat on the bench for 2 hours and watched everyone else practice. The only very difficult part of camp was the conditioning test and the running, which was not bad at all. What I thought was interesting about football camp was the fact that the coaches made an upperclassman stay with a freshman during camp to make sure the freshman went to all of the meetings. It worked we rarely had anyone miss any of the meetings. Another interesting thing about camp is that all of our practices were the same time as the game times of our season for example our first game was at Bentley College in Boston. The game started at 12pm so our first practice was at 12pm. The times like this went on the entire camp. Camp this year was not a good camp for the team. We could have done a lot more training and I think that if we would have, we would have come out of camp a better team. Football camp definitely bonded our team together though. No matter how much people messed up during camp no one ever let another teammate get down. We supported each other a lot during the running test and the running we had to do during practice. All in all I think that camp was a new experience for not only me but all the incoming freshman this year. I feel that if we had worked harder that we could have come out of camp a better team.…
