Marxist, capitalist, postmodernist and a feminist viewpoint as they will have contrasting views on what these songs represent in society and culture and the message of the song. Both songs discuss sexist views and ideologies of women and that men are in control of women. This is shown in the lyrics and videos of the songs as 50 cent is parodying a pimp in the video and a ‘bitch can’t get a dollar out of me.’ Implying women are there to be exploited and to make money out of them. A feminist would argue that these songs reinforce negative sexist ideologies in society and lead to people becoming dumbed down to problem women face. Also the use of derogatory gendered language of bitch objectifies women as animals and not human. Even the title p.i.m.p suggests it is cool to be a pimp. Feminists will argue that within this ‘hip hop’ culture women have to use their bodies to gain power.’ she’s feeding fools fantasies’ which can create a glass ceiling effect as women have little power in this culture. Another sign that this song shows women as inferior and having less power is that throughout the song women are referred to as bitch. This song shows women as animals ‘I’m bout to show you how my pimp hand is way strong.’ This implies abusing prostitutes as I sign of power and oppression and keeping women under control. In the video of p.i.m.p. women are on leashes. A feminist would say this is used to dehumanise and control women. Also this could be used to create controversy and shock to the audience to gain more popularity. A
