This is a reverse double standard. In a case in New Jersey, a 43-year-old teacher had a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old male student and was sentenced to 5 years’ probation. Her actions were statutory rape and she should have been sentenced 5 to 10 years in prison. The judge did not see any harm was done felt that the child was not psychologically damaged and was just satisfying his needs (Kupelian, 2006). A 36-year-old male teacher in the same state was given an 8.5-year sentence in prison (with life-long parole) for having a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old female student, and was also required to register as a sex offender, surrender his teaching license, and had all employment in the public sector revoked (Markos, 2008). The judge in this case said that he made her a woman before her time. Even though they are the same sex crimes they should have received the same sentence. It should not matter a person’s gender; this is a double
