How It Reproduces - The Pygmy Marmoset reaches maturity at 18 to 24 months. Gestation is approximately 18- 20 weeks; they mostly have twins and sometimes have triplets which is cool because Pygmy Marmosets are the only primates that normally have twins. Weight at birth averages from 16g. Pygmy Marmosets babies are weaned at three months of age. The males of the group will carry the babies on their backs, bringing them to the female every few hours for feeding time. The Pygmy Marmosets life span is roughly 12 years of…
The breeding season usually lasts from august to february. Young newborn koalas only drink their mothers milk for 6 to 7 months, and stay in the mothers pouch for that time. Then at about 22 weeks its ready to come out of the pouch and open its eyes. Then at about 12 months the “joeys” otherwise known as koalas are ready to leave their mothers, and go out and try to find their own home.…

Females or the Dam are induced ovulators which means they do not ovulate until the act of mating and the presence of sperm. Their gestation period is roughly 11 ½ months with a two-week period before or after that they can also give birth. There are age requirements to have a healthy pregnancy, for both the females and males. Females are not mature to breed until they are 12 to 24 months of age with 18 months being most common for a better pregnancy with less complications. The Sire or a male alpaca is not mature until their penis detaches form the prepuce, which may happen anywhere from the age of 1 to 3. Where most alpaca owners will wait until the males are about 2 years of age or older. (Alpacainfo.com, n.d). Dams give birth to a single Cria or baby, “twins are rare, approximately 1/1000, being slightly rarer than the proportion of twins in human births” (Alpacainfo.com, n.d).…

During infancy, the body is very disproportionate. During the transition into early childhood, the body starts to transform in to what seems to appear as a mini adult form. The baby fat begins to go away, they gain a longer neck, and the round belly shrinks. During this stage they grow approx.. 2-3 inches per year.…
The first step is picking out a calf. There are many things to consider when doing this. You want a calf that is big boned and has the ability to cover its tracks this means that when it walks the back foot lands where the front foot just was, so when it weighs 2000 lbs it…
A key element in the life of any individual is to be able to reproduce. Nonhuman primates number only 250 species but display great diversity in grouping patterns. We call some of these types of groupings a one male polygyny or monogamy. However, the main focus today is that these primates have evolved different strategies, behavioral and ecological, to cop with the need to balance limited food supplies while avoiding predators with intensions of mating and or harming their offspring. It has been assumed that in order for male primates to reach mating success, they must have to take on the task of always being present to the female and her offspring’s. I believe that I will argue that monogamy and one male polygyny are different yet both useful mating strategies. Then I will conclude that both mating systems have their own way of living, with special roles and circumstances despite the fact that they are both unique. The goal of my research begins by clarifying the different types of mating systems like monogamy and polygyny and then by looking into the intriguing issue of how primates choose their mates.…

The physiology of female primates has evolved to be able to support a longer gestational period than most other mammals their size. Humans have a gestational period of about 280 days which is comparable to chimps, orangutans and gorillas. The smaller primates such as the lemurs and baboons have somewhat shorter gestational periods. Primates also have a longer lifespan than other mammals their size.…
