FBLA SPEECH
The great Eleanor Roosevelt once said "You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along." Confidence is something many teens and young adults are lacking today, some say it is due to all the new technology that we have. Because of the new technology we have, some teens today who are socially deprived. Sadly the only way someone can express their true feelings about something is behind a computer. Who would Martin Luther King Jr. have been if he had not spoken out on equal rights, who would Fredrick Douglas have been if he had not taken a stand and fought to abolish slavery . Truth is they would have been nothing, nothing but a sad, hopeless person holding in what was meant to set them free. Martin Luther King, Jr., Fredrick Douglas, Rosa Parks, Ida B. Wells-Barnett .. all these men and women have something in common they all are fearless, they hold a great level of confidence in themselves. Because of their confidence they have made history, and made the day brighter for many generations to come.
Think about all the postive outcomes our generation could get if we had more confidence in ourselves and our work. Their would be less kids, commiting suicide, less kids smoking pot and belittling themselves, more kids speaking out in class, showing their true intelligence. Confidence could birth a whole new prospective, and a way of life among us teens.
Today as Future Business Leaders of America I believe that we must strengthen the confidence of students in themselves and their work. Why should this be done you may ask? Because in today society we are in need of someone who is going to stand out, and stand up for what is right! We need to rise up as a generation of young adults who are confident in our selfs and our beliefs! How can this be done some of you might ask? Well first we need

This is the case in both Martin Luther King and Malcolm X. MLK lived in a place where his voice was heard and respected, he was born into a middle class society which meant he was well taken care of, which also meant that he got to hang out with white kids. This made Martin more self confident, unlike many of the other black kids who were discriminated at that time. As a child MLK was around highly intellectual people, much older than him, which meant that as a young age he would learn to speak with confidence and charisma. This attribute from MLK’s childhood helped him in his fight against racism. His speeches are always filled with many linguistic techniques, fluently delivered and highly organized. The harmonious life of Martin Luther King contributed to many aspects of his beliefs and ideologies. He choose non violent protesting, because he knew it would be highly effective if the press covered it, however the main reason is people he grew up with. The black community would respond greatly to MLK ideas, because as infrequent as this might sound, they would feel smart for once in their life. They would feel like they’re doing the right thing because MLK, a doctor a high school graduate is doing it, they would seem smart because for once in their life they are not the violent ones portrayed on the news, and for once in their life the world could see that they are now slaves…

Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X were the stars, so to speak, of Civil Rights protesting. They are the most famous, and are still heard of frequently throughout History text books and magazine articles. Though they died a while back, their legacy still lives on, to live in a world free of segregation, but they each had different ways of “getting what they want”, and some ways of getting what they want led to the bad memories that people rather not speak about.…

In the words of Robert Kennedy, “Few will have the greatness to bend history, but each of us can work to change a small portion of the…acts [which] will be written in the history of our generation.” Small steps often lead to great changes, and so it was with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X, pioneers in the fight for racial equality. These two great leaders had the same goal, to achieve racial equality; however, they went about achieving that goal with two very different approaches. Dr. King’s message in his “I Have a Dream” speech at the March on Washington in 1963, was one of optimism and hope that the broken promises of the American government would one day be fulfilled. His hope was to achieve racial equality through integration rather than segregation. Dr. King grew up in a very loving and stable home where both his grandfather and father were…

I could never imagine a still segregated world. “I say to you today my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream.” Martin Luther King Jr. inspired me to stand up to what I believe in. Teaching students to take a stand for what they believe in will create a real change in our current society. Upholding this value will open doors for success in this generation and those to come. Taking lessons from people in history, such as Coolidge, will lay the ground work for our country to grow. It is important to never remain silent. By speaking out, we can be the voice for those suffering in our society, we can build our integrity, and we can protect our self-confidence. Always remember, and live by, what Silent Cal said in his 1st speech to the Massachusetts State Senate, “Don’t hesitate to be as revolutionary as science,” and make a difference in someone’s…

Dr.King's wisdom, intellect, and ability to lead masses of people is what inspires me day by day. He has taught me to stand up for what I believe in and to be brave when doing it. Also, that we can overcome and endure any challenging situation if we have faith in God. Without Martin Luther King’s dream becoming a reality, I would not be able to participate or even be considered for the extracurricular activities that I am in. I also would not be able to receive the tools I need to complete my school courses.…

King wasn’t afraid to talk freely to all Americans no matter what the consequences would’ve been. This is an example of bravery because african-americans weren’t treated equally as white people at the time. During the 1960’s when a black man confronted a white man it wasn’t easy for the african-americans to win because at the time white people were consider superior. However Martin Luther King Jr challenged that not physically but verbally. Which brought more attention to the civil uprising.…

Jake Paul used his own money to buy supplies, and then went down to Houston to help hurricane victims evacuate their houses. Jake Paul saved many people's lives while displaying courage by going into the danger zone when others were in need. Likewise Frederick Douglass once said “I felt strongly to speak.”(sb 72) This quote shows that Douglass had the courage to speak up andhelp others when they are in need even though Douglass also said “the thought of white of speaking to white people weighed me down.”(sb 72) That quote shows how Douglass can have the courage to stand up and speak to white people even though he was scared of talking to them. For instance Dr. Stephen Kimmel canoed through the flood water and rain so he could perform surgery on a teen. Dr. Kimmel could have drowned trying to get to the hospital but he still displayed courage and canoed through the waters any way. Most people would just walk away but heros would show courage in the time of…

When I first stepped into Anderson High School as a freshman, I was exceedingly confident in myself. I played sports, had gotten good grades, and planned to have an amazing high school career. Freshman and sophomore year were a breeze. If I am being straightforward, I did not focus much on my schoolwork. I did what was required of me and got good grades, but I did not go above and beyond. I had always been told by upperclassman, “It only gets harder from here. Enjoy it while you can.” Now I realize what that means.…
