Fastest Way To Cool A Soda Essay
The main fact people need to know in order to understand “What is the Fastest Way to Cool a Soda?” is that placing objects in ice-as well as freezers and refrigerators-makes them colder. How does the object become cooler by being placed in ice? When you add ice to a warm drink, some of the drinks’ thermal energy is transferred to the ice (that is why the ice will melt in the drink) which makes the drink cooler. To thoroughly comprehend the project, more research and knowledge is required. There are three processes by which heat energy can be transferred from one place to another: convection, conduction, and radiation. Heat can also be transferred by evaporation and radiation-which is when heat is carried directly by electromagnetic waves, or light. Those are just the basic methods of heat …show more content…

An interesting fact about our planet is that as heat from Earth is lost to space, it is replaced by heat brought by the sun. The process of heat transfer continues until everything reaches the equilibrium. Did everyone always know what heat was? In fact, they did not always know. People used to think heat was some sort of weightless thing called “caloric”. People thought “caloric” moved from a hot object to a cold object, but that didn’t explain why, for example, two cold things can heat each other up when you rub them together. An extremely valuable piece of information regarding heat is that heat and temperature are NOT the same thing. For example, hot coals are at a very high temperature, but if you touch them very briefly, only a small amount of heat energy is transferred to your feet. An ironic but significant topic to briefly go over is “cold”. Cold is simply the absence of heat. Cold cannot be transferred. People feel cold when they lose more heat energy than we can produce.     After conducting my experiment, the results have led me to the conclusion that the ice water cooled the soda the fastest. This happened because the melting ice uses energy. Though water that is in the process of freezing gives off energy, melting ice cubes absorb energy.
