Farbranch Road Monologue
Todd Hewitt, Farbranch Road, March 2, 2024 Dear Ben.

I hope you're doing well! Despite the swamps and the rain and the war and everything else between here and there, it would be supper if it found you hale and whole. A lot has happened since I last saw Prentisstown. Everyone says the old word for all this is “chaos” and maybe they’re right.

It's been a horrible long walk since those last few miles you dragged so much. So, I started thinking about you again. It happened a lot in that first year, but not so much now. But today. I don't know why I wrote you a letter.

Do you remember me and Manchee? The dog that has brown fur, remember I didn't really like him that much? Well, that's different now. We’ve built a strong friendship and have known each other more and had fun. Now that I think about it, he's better than a fission bike or all the

We didn't trust him so we gave him fake names to be sure we were on the road. On our way we heard a horse's footsteps, it was Mayor Prentiss Junior. His horse was racing towards us and we jumped out and hid in the forest. He heard me and shot his gun, I told Voila to run and I fought Mayor Prentiss Junior.

I jump up from the bushes and strike. He hits me to the floor, where he surrenders me. I couldn't move when he was holding me down and took my knife, but with my legs I pushed him up and threw him onto the floor.I had the knife and had a shot to kill him. But I was a coward, I was too scared to kill him. He whispered to me, "I can't kill you." My dad wants you to. Voila electrocutes Mr. Prentiss junior with a weird rope. I was furious and ready to finish him off, but Voila stopped me. She reminds me I'm not a killer and men are after me to change me.

I encounter a strange creature and start to attack it. I got a spear and started to attack it while it was running away from me. I notice while I'm trying to kill it, I’m changing into the men like in

Gabriela- After the fifth dah of riding we arrived at Moonrock, not the tower but the outskirts of the place. Moonrock was in lower land than Skyrock and Starrock was in. His eyes hinted that he was nervous, telling you that he wasn’t very confident in this situation. Your mind raced as you thought up of different strategies to use against the bully. ‘He’s a bit on the heavy side, maybe I can use his size against him since I’m smaller. He also shifts his weight onto his left leg, maybe he’s broken it before?’ Motioning for him to draw his weapon, you looked over at the victims and saw them now standing by a boy with dark hair and sea-green eyes.…

I pulled my beanie securely on my head as I crouched down on a sturdy tree branch. My hunting knife reflected the dim light of the moon. It glinted letting my prey know I was there. "Yeah, I love a good chase!" I jumped from branch to branch as I chase my target. His brown hair was starting to gray but he ran pretty good for someone in their late forties. At least that's what boss lady said. I jumped down quietly as the man began to get tired. He began huffing as his pace slowed. I knocked into his back sending him into a tree. His chest heavily moved with his ragged breaths. I slowly approached him as I pulled my hunting knife back out. "Let play," I said in a deadpan tone. My eyes lost their light as I stared down at him.…

I really wanted to go out there and kill him. But I knew that wouldn’t be satisfying enough, so I started to plan my revenge. At first, I thought I’d just call the police, but then I thought the revenge option sounded so much better. So I was thinking of what I could do, when it hit me. I had watched a film the day before, and the man started off cutting his victims toes, then fingers off, then legs, then arms and watched until they died. That was exactly what I was going to do. 5 years of beatings to 30 minutes of torture sounds about right. You may think I’m mad in the head, but I’m not, I’m just angry.…
