After being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2010, I decided life was too short not to follow my heart’s desire. That semester, I signed up for nursing school. I loved the fact that her role bridged the gap between her patients’ disease man-agement, the acute surgical care and back to the management again. I was instantly intrigued at how the care seemed to come full circle with her patients. I appreciated the focus on improving the patients’ quality of life as well as the multidisciplinary team approach to achieving their goals. This experience made me look at the bigger picture. I wondered how her patients would function at home. How would they take care of themselves? What kind of support system do they have? We discussed in great length the holistic healthcare approach.
