Faith Call Us To Be Courageous In Our Love Analysis

There is many different types of social justice, yet it is rare for someone to associate it with faith and religion. In the article “Faith Call Us To Be Courageous in Our Love” by Marie Alford-Harkey, it says that people of faith should love and accept all. This seems easy enough, but as of right now in this country, it is a challenge. This article talks of everything from the Syrian refugees to the LGBTQ+ community. Can the Christians learn to love all? Ms. Alford-Harkey is the Deputy Director of the Religious Institute, which is a national nonprofit dedicated to advocating for sexual health, education, and justice in faith communities and society. She is a huge proponent making the connection between sexuality and religion. The article she wrote in the Huffington Post is a very interesting read.
The root cause of this is that some people of religion is picking and choosing what verses they want to apply to them. Many Christian people makes references to Leviticus 20:13 about how homosexuality is a sin. Yes this makes sense to make references to this verse in the Bible, but you rarely see people referencing the verses about being courageous in our love. Another example is the current Syrian refugee crisis. Many people are wanting to not accept the refugees is fear they a part of ISIS. Yet in John 6: 37 it states, “All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out.” They are many verses that are similar to this yet everyone is rejecting these innocent people out of fear. Governors are claiming that their state will not accept these refugees, even though this act is illegal. Faith does not teach us to care only for those of our likeness and be fearful of those that do not agree with our opinions and teachings.
