Extended School Hours
Have you ever stayed after school and felt very exhausted afterward? If you have, then that is would an extended school day would feel like. I don't agree with adding an extra hour and a half to a school day because staying an extra hour and thirty minutes in school will cause difficulties for lots of parents, teachers, and students. First and foremost, children will start to lose interest in class. Personally, I have a short attention span and I would be mentally gone if we had to be in class for any longer. Children that are thirteen years old have an attention span of 39-65 minutes. According to marketinginsidergroup.com children's attention span is 8 seconds shorter than a goldfish. Right now we are in each class for about an hour

Therefor I don’t think our school board should add time to each school day. I think we should keep our schedule starting at 7:30 and ending at 2:30. That way we can get home do chores, play and go to any afterschool activities. If we changed our school hours that would interfere with parents/guardians work schedules. Now with the schedules our school has we don’t get to restless with the teachers or other…

Schools should not change the time for going in later.I say this because the later the kids go in the later they get out. And if teens have after school activities then they would get out later than usual and do homework and study for a test later than usual. And wouldn't get as much sleep as the school thinks.A passage on why is should be like this states’’if schools get out later…

Kids will go insane if the school board adds one and a half hours to school. Children are already stressed about SOLs and homework. We shouldn't put more pressure on them. The school board should add more days to the school days to the school year than adding more hours. Adding more time will cause more problems and stress. The school board should not add one and a half hours board because students will complain more, teachers will have to stay longer after the school day, and it would limit after-school activities.…

if jimmy has good grades it makes him look good and the school will look good. so there for i do believe that a later day start would great for everyone. Also i think it would benefit the teachers because then they would have more time to get stuff done and maybe it'd actually allow them to teach better which would also allow the students to learn better and again earn better grades on class work, homework, and test. but however by doing that and getting out a hour later or possibly more then that it will also give teens and kids less time outside during the day when the sun is up to get something's done and pretty much students and teachers would be living in the dark because you'd always be in school during the day. but still for better grades and more…

The majority of Students stay up late even on school nights, if students had a hour later to get ready they wouldn't be as tired and failing classes and not wanting to do anything while they're at school. In the article Backgrounder by the national sleep foundation, “Later school start times” It states “research shows that adolescents require as much sleep as they did as a children generally, 8 1/2 to 9 ¼”(1). This shows that adolescents aren't getting enough sleep as they should be to have to wake up early and go to school. Even if we had a hour later to start school students wouldn't be as tired as they are now.…

By doing so, students would be more alert and wanting to learn, and they can become successful. An issue that comes along with changing the high school hours are the diverse amounts of after school activities. With ending school later, these activities would have to end later also. A teenager's natural sleep clock wants to go to bed later anyway, so it would not affect that teenager if he or she gets home late. For intense, a teenager who plays volleyball is used to getting out of practice at 5:30 p.m., instead she would get out at 7:30 p.m.. She would still have time to go home and do homework and other things and would not have to worry about going to bed or waking up early because of her natural sleep clock. With this not being an issue, high schools need to change their hours to being later. Many students would be positively changed mentally and physically if schools adapted to their natural sleep clocks. Students would be a lot more energized and ready to take on the day. In conclusion, there are a variety of benefits for teenagers that come with high school classes…

One of the reasons we think the school start time should stay the same is because it will make the time commitment of participating in after school activities more difficult to manage. All of us, like many other students, participate in after school activities. A later school start time will mean that school activities will start later and run even later than they do now. The later in the day it gets, the less energy we have to give 100% effort mentally. We will also be more physically tired which means if…

In conclusion instead of changing the time that the entire school starts and ends, it would be easier to just start going to bed earlier so that we can learn and have time for our extracurriculars. School staying the same time that it currently starts is more convenient for students, parents, teachers, and the community. I believe that school should remain at the time of day it currently is, because it leaves more time after school for activities, it is more convenient for parent schedules, and it is more realistic to a college or job…

The time is 7:05. You know your alarm is about to go off. All of a sudden your stomach sinks. You forgot to do your three pages of algebra homework. This is a feeling all too familiar for the students of East Jordan Middle High School. This is due to the poor scheduling job. With a 7 hour schedule students are overwhelmed with ideas and thoughts in their head, and they cannot easily transition so quickly from one idea to the next. They also have trouble remembering their homework. With a 6 hour school schedule, it will fix this problem. The school could switch to a 6 hour schedule by eliminating one class from the schedule completely. Students would only have 6 classes not seven. East Jordan Middle High School must switch to a 6 hour class schedule…

Schools should stay the same time as it is now instead of having it change to an hour later. We do not get enough time in the day to do things, even if it is an hour’s difference, it still makes a big difference in their performance and their behaviors. Kids in high school have a lot of work and it makes it hard to get it done when there is a lot of work to get done. Not only that, but it takes up their free time to go have fun and to do what they want without having to worry about school. Kids and especially teens should have time to themselves and to not have to worry about projects, homework, or other activities. School should stay the same instead of having it start and hour…

Most teenagers are student athletes and/or have jobs, which can determine where 15+ hours a week are spent. In addition to a weekly 6+ hours of studying and homework. Along with other extracurricular and time spent with family. Some say kids would just be staying up longer and goofing off, well they are wrong. Having that extra hour, students would have time to relax and would not feel as rushed and stressed to accomplish everything they have to do. Another argument against having schools start later is the lack of time for after school programs. However, school starting an hour later will not cause that many problems because the school day would end before four. The only problem occurring is less of a break between school, sports, and other after-school…

Moreover, having students stay in school for more days can help the school meet its needs. A better explanation would be schools would have no problems, economically. To prove the point, students buy snacks, lunch, parking, and materials. Students don't realize how much they help the school pay its bills such as diesel, supplies, and utility payments. Having a four day school week can increase the…
