Ulysses S. Grant was a war hero and the 18th president of the United States. During his two year term he was criticized for a number of things. One major thing that negatively affected his political career was that he trusted too easily. As a result of this, members of his cabinet, and lower administration got away with everything from financial mismanagement to theft. Once word of this got out he lost support within his own party. Despite immense efforts, Grant failed to apply congressional policies during the years of reconstruction. An example of this would be Grants desire to leave the south with blacks having full rights, he obviously fell short of his goal.…

There was no clear to reason as to why the Babylonian god Enlil choose to destroy all of mankind. Some argue that it was done spitefully, to anger the human race’s creator(s), Ea (and, in some stories, Belet-ili). Others say it was to punish the evil doings of mankind.…

The story of the flood in the Epic of Gilgamesh is a well-known parallel to the story of Noah’s ark in the Hebrew Scriptures of Genesis. The flood in both stories destroys mankind by the power of a deity. These floods drowned men, women, children, and some babies and infants, as well as eliminating all of the land animals and birds. The floods represent a new beginning for mankind as well as the gods’ or God’s anger against the humans. In the Epic of Gilgamesh, the Earth is flooded for six days and six nights because a god, Enlil, was disturbed by the humans when trying to take a nap. In the book of Genesis, God chose to flood Earth for forty days and forty nights not because the humans…

Genesis 6 culminates with the proclamation of judgment upon the whole earth resulting in a global flood. This judgment is pronounced not only on mankind but on all living things. The primary focus of Genesis 6 is on man’s sins, and indeed mankind was culpable in bringing about this judgment. The question is was it the sole reason for the flood? If man’s wickedness was the sole reason then why destroy the earth and all the animals as well? And what did it accomplish? Sin quickly resumed after the flood. No sooner had the flood waters receded that mankind quickly fell into their old sinful ways. Ham committed a shameful act with his father, who in turn cursed his descendants . The people then rebelled against God’s decree to fill the earth, and…

“The uproar of mankind is intolerable and sleep is no longer possible by reasons of the babel". The reasoning for the flood in Gilgamesh seems very irrational. The Gods decide to destroy mankind because there are too many people in the world and they are making too much noise. It seems that the gods didn't think over their decision wisely. Being they are the gods, one would think they possess the power to come do a different means of resolving this problem instead of just destroying mankind.…

The Epic of Gilgamesh tells a story of “The Flood”. A man name Utnapishtim tells Gilgamesh about a city called Shuruppak. This city was too loud for the Gods and they could get no sleep so they agreed to exterminate mankind by causing the whole world to flood. Utnapishtim however, is visited by a god, named Ea, in a dream and is told to build a boat with certain measurements so that he may survive. Utnapishtim built the boat and covers it in pitch. Then he fills the boat with animals wild…

They held the ultimate power and made the ultimate decisions on both the continued existence of mankind and the fates of men. If defied, the consequences to humankind could be devastating, as was the case when Enlil made the statement, “The uproar of mankind is intolerable and sleep is no longer possible by reason of the babel.” At which point the gods met in council, and agreed to exterminate mankind, removing all existence of their creation. A little harsh don’t you think, and in my opinion, portraying the gods as one’s with little compassion for humankind and the importance of its existence in the first…

In addition, the famous Flood itself, noted for its similarity to the Noahic story from the Old Testament, is the result of wrathful gods, angry, essentially, that mankind is too loud and clamorous. Only Utnapishtim, warned ahead of time by the goddess Ea to "take up into [a] boat the seed of all living creatures," survives with his family. Utnapishtim is rewarded with immortality for his exertions. The relationship between mortals and gods, therefore, is often contentious, and those who have not been chosen as favorites by the deities are condemned to suffer.…

When I lived with my parents in the country, often times my yard and gravel road would be completely flooded. We do not live very close to a major river but may live close enough to cause these kinds of problems. We live maybe 5 miles from the Wapsipinicon River, but I do not think this was the cause of our flooding. Back in the day before farmers took over the land for crops around our area, it was known to be a very swampy area. I know that come time of a big storm the fields that outline our gravel road, look like a lake. You could not even tell that it was a field. With the fields normally flooding after every big rain storm, the crops do not have any luck growing. It makes me wonder after every year of having no success, wouldn't the farmers…

The reason of the flood of the in The Epic of Gilgamesh is that the gods are extremely angry because they could not sleep. "The uproar of mankind is intolerable and sleep is no longer possible by reasons of the babel" (35). The god’s vindication of destroying mankind seems highly unreasonable. The Gods plan to terminate humanity because they are making too much noise. It seems that the gods did not think about their decision intelligently. These gods have the ability connect to people in dreams and make a flood to exterminate mankind, but they can not do anything about the noise. It’s clearly obvious that these gods do not use their powers for a meaningful purpose.…
