Upon the founding of America, a great deal of pressure was placed onto the Founding Fathers to create a system in which the central government will not acquire too much power and the citizens will be well represented. A representative democracy was, overall, a more effective answer to the question of how to govern the new country rather than a direct democracy after seeing the effects that the Articles of Confederation created when too much of the power of the government was given to the people and their states. A stronger central government was needed without taking away the voice of the people, and that’s what was decided on. However, even though this way has proven to be the most effective way to govern a country, it has its flaws within the system. Corruption finds its way through the system in ways of interest groups and political parties. This system is not immune to factions nor the effect of those factions, and those effects often make their way to important matters within the government.…

When asked the question “what is an american?”, almost every single person would provide a different answer. This question is very open ended, and there are infinite possibilities for a response. Being an american is not something that can be decided by a few physical criterion, it is something more. To be an american is, according to Patricia Fernandez, “a state of mind,” based on a person’s beliefs rather than their tangible features. Therefore, I believe that an American is someone who considers America to be their home, believes in freedom and equality for all people regardless of race, social status, gender, or ethnicity, and is loyal and supportive to the United States.…

What does it mean to be an American, to me it means that I have certain rights and freedoms that nobody can take away from me unless I deserve them to be taken. Most people believe that being an american means that you can get away with doing whatever you want because they have freedom of speech or the rights to do it, but sometimes those rights don’t apply and to me that seems like they are just trying to take advantage of what everyone believes what being an American means. Being an American means that you have more privileges than most countries do and people take that for granted.…

America is one of the highest living standard countries in the world, with possibilities of great opportunities. Many immigrants come to this country for the chance at a better life, and to follow the lifestyles and aspects of being an American. Americans can be defined by three key aspects. Striving for what we want to do in life is the first and maybe the most critical, keeping the faith and goals for America that our founding fathers had, and lastly, keeping the pride of being an American when it is tested. These three aspects are what defines immigrants and U.S. born citizens as Americans, and it creates the ground for them to stand on when making the claim that they are American.…

Being an American means enjoying more security, freedom, and liberty than any other nation in the world. Americans have the opportunity to become what ever they desire, and they can choose their future, whether they are successful or not.
