Explain What America Means To Me Essay
Have you ever wondered what living in America actually means? To many people being an American is a title filled with sacrifice and courage. To others it means having a democracy style of government, or to be living the American Dream to some it may mean being free. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and most of them are not wrong, but the question still remains? What does America mean? Does your America entitle freedom and equality, democracy or does it entitle honor and integrity.
When the first people came to America they came for freedom of religion. This people are known as Pilgrims, Puritans and the Quakers. They had hope that in a new nation they could have freedom for what they wanted and what they believed. “Nothing is more wonderful than the art of being free, but nothing is harder to learn how to use than freedom.” says the author of Democracy in America written by Alexis de Tocqueville When this new nation was created we founded ourselves on the idea of freedom and equality for all people. For our Declaration of Independence says “We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, That they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.”

Through our freedom that we fought for in the early years. With the equality that we are still in a great fight to achieve. The spirit of democracy that runs through Americans and the country itself. The people who gave their lives so that we may live in the country we live in now. The honor that the brave men and women earned through their bravery in fighting for what's right.     My poster board is broken up into five different sections. My first section of my collage is pictures of America’s most famous symbols, such as the White House, the flag, Mount Rushmore, and the Statue of Liberty. The second section of my collage is labeled ideals and values. The pictures I choose were family, wealth, products, and democracy. Family, wealth, and products are three things Americans strive for; it’s a common goal for most of us. Democracy is something that we had to fight for so it’s something that Americans value. My third section is societal issues and I choose abortion, gun control, and gay marriage. Something about all three of these topics is that they almost force you to have an opinion. These topics cause debates and force voting and no matter what the government decides on, it will always be argued. My fourth section is strengths, for this I choose freedom, diversity, military, and government. Our government is the best in the world because its fair but also structured.
