When we think of leaders, the first thing that usually comes to mind is an individual who holds significant power such as celebrity, high profile athlete, CEO of a fortune 500 company or a high profile political figure . Everyone has the ability to become a leader, as leaders, everyone has the power to not only influence others, but inspire and motivate them as well. The great philosopher, Plato once said that “all learning has some emotional basis”, it is widely accepted that soft skills such as active listening greatly affect how people feel and respond to others from our friends and family to our co-workers and bosses. If they feel the urge to give in to strong emotions in their interactions with others, they give themselves a time out, waiting until their emotions have leveled off and they have had a chance to think about the situation (Kumar, 2012). Also, leaders with empathy have the ability to put themselves in someone else 's situation. They help develop the people on their team, challenge others who are acting unfairly, give constructive feedback, and listen to those who need it. Eq leaders earn the respect and loyalty of their team and the people around you, by showing them that they care by being empathic.
To conclude, emotional intelligence is one the single best predictors of performance in the workplace and the strongest driver of leadership and personal excellence. Building, managing and cultivating relationships are important to the success in any organization, and the quality of the relationships determines the effectiveness of the organizational culture. Understanding EQ and the role it plays in management and in the organization will vastly improve the internal relations and strengthen the personal fulfillment and professional accomplishments of

    The historical backdrop of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) began with Carl Jung, the organiser of analytical psychology. Jung believed that individuals are either stimulated by the outer world (Extraversion) or their own inner world (Introversion). In the same way Jung observed individuals took in data (Perceiving) or organise data and frame a conclusion (Judging). Additionally Jung noted that individuals mostly demonstrate a dominant part. In this way, in 1921, Jung distributed Psychological Types in which he displayed the thought of Jungian models (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Manual, 2012). Isabel Myers-Briggs developed the MBTI in the 1920s based on Jung’s theoretical constructs with an additional two dimensions of styles of living, consisting of a fourth scale that measures perceiving and judging (Myers, McCaully, Quenck, & Hammer, 2003; Mullins, 2005; Schreuder & Coetzee, 2011).     A great leader has empathy. He will go the extra mile to gain a better understanding of you as a person. A great leader will strive to find out how your mind works. From there he can become you, theoretically, and place himself in your shoes. His own mind will stop interrupting, and see things through your eyes. He can sense what is in your interest and connect your interest with his ideas. The empathetic leader, through dialogue, has a recognizable ability to connect with you. He will extend his empathy through person-to-person and group-to-group. The leader with empathy can make everyone feel as if his or her contribution is part of the big picture. An empathetic leader also has the talent of effective listening. He will not spend the conversation thinking about how he is going to reply to your piece of the exchange.
