Exemplification Essay: Discontinue Animal Testing
Discontinue Animal Testing Each year, over 100 million animals are left dead or physically and psychologically distressed. This is due to cosmetic, drug, medication, or even curiosity animal testing. Similar tests have been going on since almost 500 BC. Joseph Phoenix said, “It takes nothing away from a human to be kind to an animal”. Animal Testing is heartless and unkind, because scientists can run tests without animals, animal testing doesn’t help find human results, medication works differently in humans than animals, and animals lives are wasted in all of the faulty experiments. There are other approaches of testing that can substitute the requirement for animals. They have studied and tested on cell cultures in petri dishes, and they …show more content…
Countless animals that are used in tests and research are either killed during or after the experiment. These animals are forfeited for poor research. That pitiable research does not only trash animal’s lives, but the research dollars of the government. It is harsh how many animal’s lives are misused every day in animal research and how much money is misused.
There are also some ways that animal testing has helped humans, though. Through animal testing they have discovered insulin which has saves the lives of diabetics. Some animals are also said to be better to use, because of their shorter life cycles. “Laboratory mice, for example, live for only two to three years” (procon.org). It is said that animals do not have rights, so it is adequate to experiment on them. Even if scientists have found cures in the process of testing animals, it still throws away the lives of an infinite amount of animals.
An animal should not be confined in a laboratory for tests, it should be where it is meant to be. There are many other ways to approach verification of disease, illness, or maladies. The method of testing on animals should be changed as some already have. Animal testing is heartless and

An estimated 26 million animals are used every year in the United States for scientific and commercial testing. Animal testing is used to test out things like cosmetics, drugs, food additives, supplements, household products, pesticides, and industrial chemicals. Most of the animals are euthanized after they are experimented on due to health effects caused by the inhumane experiment. Basically animals die due to human errors (Buzzle). Thousands of drugs passed on animal tests hurt humans, and vice versa. For example the helpful medication of Aspirin fails animal tests, but benefits humans. Heart by-pass surgery was held off for many years because it failed on dogs. However, heart by-pass surgery has an extremely positive effect on humans most of the time (Animal Rights…

Every year millions of animals are subjected to horrible unethical experimentations in order to advance medical science. Dogs, cats, monkeys, mice, and other animals are kept in dark rooms in cages while being exposed to various toxic and poisonous substances daily in order to test how the substance may react in humans. These poor creatures suffer from inhumane treatments and are denied any form of happiness, and these experiments should cease and alternatives should be used instead. Animal testing is a cruel and ineffective medical practice that produces unreliable results and those laboratories should use safer alternatives that will provide more accurate results.…

Animal testing is rarely successful since animals have different physiologies than humans. There has been many studies that have shown inaccuracy and unsuccess in animal testing. Studies show, “90 percent of medications approved for human use after animal testing later proved ineffective or harmful to humans in clinical trials” (Stop Animal Testing) and also, “Animal-tested drugs have killed, disabled or harmed millions of people and lead to costly delays as well” (Stop Animal Testing). It is evident that animal testing lacks accuracy and has dangerous consequences, therefore it should no longer be…

The major pro for animal testing is that it aids researchers in finding drugs and treatments to improve health and medicine. Many medical treatments have been made possible by animal testing, including cancer and HIV drugs, insulin, antibiotics, vaccines and many more. It is for this reason that animal testing is considered vital for improving human health and it is also why the scientific community and many members of the public support its use. Cancer, Down syndrome, heart problems, diabetes, and others are some of the main diseases scientists are trying to find cures for. The other side to animal testing can potentially save lives by finding cures for these life threatening diseases. This is why some parts of animal testing are so vital to our health systems and patients. Many universities use animals to test in different types of training programs. At the University of Michigan nursing students used a cat to practice putting a tube into its windpipe. The goal of the procedure was for nurses working on survival flights to be able to perform the procedure to patients in critical condition. The cat was later adopted into a family and was not harmed at all (Kozlowski). Although this particular procedure seems harmless to the cat and sounds painless campaigns continued to protest against using live animals and PETA continued to press the subject. They wanted them to replace using live animals with simulators which virtually does the same thing (Kozlowski). Tests like this that are done seem so minuet compared to others that are used for finding cures. Animal testing for human health has been said to be unsafe, unreliable, and expensive. On the contrary there have been cases where animal testing for medical reasons has in fact found vaccines and cures. From 1940 to 1960 polio was one of the most popular and well known diseases. Due to the research conducted on…
