The movie Crash interweaves the lives of multiple people, who have been stereotyped by one another in the worst ways possible to show us that many real-life problems stem from the fear people have towards one another. It puts into prospect how many people make racially charged comments and expect no retribution to their comments or actions. In the movie, Jean Cabot and her husband get carjacked by a couple of African American men who Jean had been fearful of earlier in the day. When they get home, she sees the locksmith at her house and implies because of his tattoos he will be doing something illegal. Tattoos have had an implication of bad intentions in the past. Misjudging people because of their appearance can be harsh because it is not

    The movie Crash is a very interesting and compelling movie that showed some social problems like racism and stereotypes that occur in everyday life. The movie starts off a day later from the present when a Det. Graham Waters is at a scene of a crime and just got a look at the victim which happen to be his own brother (revealed at the end of the movie).     Sandra Bullock’s character in the Movie Crash was Jean Cabot. Jean was portrayed as the district attorney’s wife. She became fearful of people of color when she was robbed by the two black gentlemen Anthony and Peter after they left the Asian restaurant feeling like they were discriminated against based on their race. When Anthony an Peter decided to rob the Cabot’s they did it because Jean decide to grab on to Ricks’ arm at the sight of Anthony and Peter. When Anthony and Peter robbed the Cabot’s’ they took their house keys as well causing them to have to get the keys replaced by the locksmith. Since Jean now has that fear that all men of color are going to rob her she then thinks and states it very loudly that the locksmith is going to take a set of her keys and give it to his friends so that they can be robbed again. Her husband Rick is running for re-election as the district attorney. Rick feels as though he could use the carjacking to his electoral advantage as a way to help him get re-elected. Jean had become a very angry person after she got robbed, she was overtly mad at the maid for not taking the dishes out of the dishwasher and Jean had a big fit about it. Jean later talks to her friend on the phone about why she has been so angry lately and she doesn’t understand why. Jean falls down the stairs after she gets off the phone with her friend and just lies at the bottom of the stairs whimpering. Jean later talks to Rick on the phone and she tells him about her accident and that everyone she called was unavailable to help her, the only person that came to her rescue was Maria her maid.     One of the more predominant prejudices presented in Haggis ' film comes in the form of selective perception. Selective perception prevents people from seeing the truth of other individuals because of the labels we place on them. Selective perception allows for people to see only what they choose to. Several of the characters in Crash exhibit selective perception while identifying the race of others outside their own. Often times when someone identifies someone outside their own race on the basis of looks, they are quick to make a wrongful assumption of that person 's heritage. These assumptions are often insensitive to a person 's true race and viewed as ignorance by the victim of them. An example of this in Haggis ' Crash involves a situation when an Iranian store keeper and his family finds hateful words about Arabs written on the walls of his store after a robbery. The family is insulted by these terms because Iranians are not Arabs, they are in fact Persian. "Since when are Persians Arab?" the mother asked. Whoever performed the vandalism made a wrongful assumption of their heritage, due to selective perception. Other similar instances to this can also be found in the film. Two young black males refer to a Korean man as a "China-man", while another man refers to his San Salvadorian and Puerto Rican significant other as "Mexican".
