Examples Of Racism, Prejudice And Discrimination
1.) Define and contrast racism, prejudice, and discrimination. Provide examples of each.
Racism, prejudice, and discrimination are terms that are closely linked together. These terms represent an act of not accepting everyone for who they are by a “dominant” group or individual. “The dominant group naturally wants to protect its privileged position. Among the weapons it uses to do so are prejudice and discrimination” (Kornblum; Pg. 188). Although these terms are closely linked, they each represent different concepts. Racism is a behavior or opinion against another race. Racism occurs when one race feels superior than other races. For example, Adolf Hitler believed that the race of Jews was disgusting, and that they should not be allowed to live. So, Hitler imprisoned and

“Prejudice is based on attitude; it is a tendency to think about people in a categorical, predetermined way” (Kornblum; Pg. 189). For example, a lot of coaches, schools, and professional athletics departments all have prejudice against black individuals. It is believed that backs are uneducated, but they make up for this by being super talented in sports. Most of the times schools and coaches recruit black men for their teams. This kind of prejudice is acceptable, but prejudices against women is not. For instance, back then it was believed that women were inferior to men, and all they were good for was house work. Some people judge others for their differences because they are envious they know that certain individuals are superior to them, so they try to bring them down. Others may judge because they do not know nothing about a certain individual or group, so because of fear they try and break them down without getting the full picture. It important that we learn to make positive choices so that we understand, accept, and tolerate everyone. We must learn and explore new things because like it or not we are all in this world

I think that institutional racism still exists today. Institutional racism is a form of racism and it refers to institutions giving negative treatments to a group based on their race. Some of these institutions are governmental organizations, schools, banks, and courts. Institutional racism leads to inequality because some groups are seen as inferior to other groups. For example, we see institutional racism in courts when judges impose sentences for crimes.…

Prejudice is a preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience. Prejudice has existed for as long as mankind can remember, and sadly it's not going to subside. In the past, people have either witnessed or experienced prejudice. It can be traced back to when women were not granted the right to vote, based on the fact that they were women. On the other hand, prejudice occurred during the Holocaust, where prejudice was directed mainly towards Jews. Not only did prejudice take place in the past, but it still transpires today. Today, people assume someone is gay, based on the way they act. Prejudice is directed towards them. On the other hand, people assume that all tall people or all blacks are superior at basketball.…

Institutional racism is societal patterns that influence discrimination against a particular race or ethnicity (Hart 2015: 14.) An example of institutional racism can be seen in the south side of Chicago, specifically with the schools located there. As a result of the poverty invested communities all around the area, children attending schools are often times forgotten about. Most of the schools are filled with minority groups, which causes schools to receive poor funding from Chicago Public Schools (CPS). On top of that, the south side is predominately a African-America community which only adds to the discrimination.…

Institutional Racism Within the Criminal Justice System in the U.S Institutional racism is quite apparent in the U.S criminal justice system as not only the police force seem to be "institutionally" racist, but the judges too in certain states. Ian Haney. F Lopez defines institutional racism as being divided into “path and script racism: Path racism is directed racial status-enforcement influenced in an unrecognized manner by racial institutions. Script racism is undirected racial status-enforcement influenced in an unrecognized manner by racial institutions. ”Lopez suggests that some judges in the state of California are institutionally racist, especially towards Mexican-Americans.…

I have learned that there is various types of discrimination for example, individual, organizational, and structural. These all exclude members of a certain group, mainly minorities. “Discrimination against minorities and women must now be viewed as an interlocking process involving the attitudes and actions of individuals and the organizations and social structures that guide individual behaviors.” (P. 268) This has taught me that peoples attitudes is what makes them feel as if its alright to discriminate against some one that isn't like them.…

Inequality means that is a fact or condition of not being equal ;lack of equality. I am going to write about inequality racism because there is to much hate for African Americans and that is not good and to teach people who are racist a lesson. Inequality racism is presented in Schools, Neighborhoods, and at work. In schools students treat African American people like if there are a toy to make fun of. Even the Your neighbors. When they are planning to have an event with all the neighborhood they wont want to invite the African American. Increasing intercultural and interracial communication and collaboration in a globalized world will hasten the end of racism…

In today's world, people are valued by the color of their skin and are categorized based on the amount of money one posses in their savings account. But in America today a very generalized group of Americans are being hunted everyday with inequality in workforce, American society, judicial system, education and etc. Racial Minorities are encountered in a very poorly manner, arguably minorities blame “white supremacy and white privilege” being the reason why a chain of black lives have been lost with “police brutality” . People in the United states are labeled by the exterior and often forgiveful in the reality of people being the same in the interior. Despite the rough patches America has faced, America will never be united if we don't…

It often takes the form of social actions, practices or beliefs, or political systems that consider different races to be ranked as inherently superior or inferior to each other, based on presumed shared inheritable traits, abilities, or qualities. It may also hold that members of different races should be treated differently.[1][2][3]…
