Possible Objections It is safe to say that unlisted men and women are important, but they have not been groomed to lead. Leading is the primary focus of a commissioned officer. Commissioned officers are trained to survive, escape, resist, and evade if and when captured. The officer’s corps holds not only position but also authority. Enlisted men and women are trained after an extended period of time to lead military members below them. An officer must lead multiple people from time they enter active duty.
