Examples Of Fo For My Family Shield
In medieval times, shields were used to shield and protect a knight or soldier. They are also a way to distinguish where the soldier is from and what family background they have. Rulers and noblemen created symbols on banners and shields to help identify each knight. An emblem represented a ruler or family. This helped identify knight’s heritage. During combat, a knight can tell who they are fighting by the emblem or symbols. Over time, symbols started showing up on clothing items or surcoats. The symbols were printed on them and were called coat of arms. The set of rules of designing and making a coat of arm is known as heraldry. These rules include certain colors that can only be used. Emblems had to be easily read and were usually of a form of an animal or mythical creature. These guidelines helped me in designing my family shield. …show more content…

What do you consider when you hear the words red, white, and blue? Do you naturally think about the flag of the United States of America? Our flag, as we probably see it today, is not the first flag with stars and stripes to be made. After the original thirteen colonies declared independence in 1776, Betsy Ross would sew the first U.S. Flag displaying the colors red, white and blue. The First Continental Congress on June 14, 1777, changed the shape of the stars from the circle pattern of the Ross design to the block shape we recognize today. Congress would give meaning to the colors of the flag in 1777. White would imply purity and innocence; red would be hardiness and valor; blue would become vigilance, perseverance…

The Coat of Arms created for El Patróns Empire, Opium, is based off of literal and metaphorical ideas. For example the entire reason for his empire was his anger that all seven of his siblings died. He believed he deserved the lives they did not get. Also Opium would be nothing without Poppies so to support my shield I used Poppy Flowers. Notice that there are seven flowers supporting the shield, each of the flowers represents a sibling he lost. The smallest flower represents the sister he had that throughout the story El Patrón said died of typhoid and was barely tall enough to see over the windowsill “no, not even on tiptoe”. The crest and crown of my shield are meant to resemble El Patrón himself. In english El Patrón means the boss, to…

My historical bumper sticker is based on some of the states wanting a Bill of Rights added to the Constitution. They wanted a Bill of Rights to make sure the government was not able to take away any of the people's rights or gain too much power. My slogan addresses the states', for example Massachusetts', point of view. It says, "The Bill of Rights is Right for U.S." which can be read as "United States" or "us" showing the states are unified over wanting amendments and that they believe a Bill of Rights is what the Constitution needs. I chose to do red, white and blue coloration because if a Bill of Rights was promised then the states would ratify the Constitution, therefore making them a part of the United States of America whose colors are…

The shield known as aspis or hoplon is said to be where the origin of the name “hoplite” derived from. However, as stated previously, the term “hoplite” is not just derived from this shield, but the panoply. The shield is round and is created in about 700 BC. Diodorus states that the term “heavy-armed infantry-men” can be derived from the usage of the shield. The original composition of the shield was mainly wood with a small composition of bronze on its rim (itus). It is a shield that is double-grip which is why there are two handles on the interior of the shield. The composition of the shield by 425 CE was thin bronze. The shield is said to painted blazon and is decorated with an emblem that can be personal. As time progressed, the emblem is replaced with a badge of the state in order to help with the identification of friend or foe on the…

    Federal Shield Laws

There is a definite need for a federal shield law, to protect journalists from being held in contempt for not revealing their sources. A shield law is a statute that protects journalists from being forced to reveal confidential sources, from which information has been received. There are state shield laws in place right new for many states within the United States, however there are 15 states in the United States that have not yet adopted any type of shield law protecting against being held in contempt (Shield Laws). There are some great reasons why a federal shield law is a good idea. One main reason for the law is to create a set of rules for reporters to follow when gathering information for a story. These rules would help keep reporters from being held in contempt for not abiding by subpoenas. Another aspect of the shield law is that it would stop some confusion that occurs with the many state statues. The need for a federal shield law is there, but the question is how much should journalists be protected? Should journalists be able to gather information and be completely protected when the need arises for government officials to know the source of this information? Or, should journalists be forced to comply with the government and hand over all sources and findings?…

The first was you wanted me to find a way to incorporate your Native American heritage in the logo, especially since you incorporated it in the business name. I did this by including a simplified, glyph version of a dreamcatcher along with finding the perfect font to emphasize the native feeling of the business. I looked through every font in my library and even downloaded some new ones to find the perfect one for this logo. The second request was that I keep the design simple. You wanted this so that the logo could be put on anything and be seen at any size and still be recognizable. When I started out, the design was quite a bit more complicated than it is now. Instead of having a simplified version of the dreamcatcher, it was much more like a realistic one. After looking at it for a while however, I felt as though the extra detail wasn't necessary and that it was easy to tell that it was a dreamcatcher without all the details. The third request was to keep it to as few colors as possible. I definitely understand this because having too many colors has a couple negative consequences. The first, is that too many colors distracts the viewer and confuses them as to what they're supposed to look at first. The second, is that the more colors a design has, the more expensive it is to print, and since you are just starting out, the less expensive things are the better. I think you would agree that I…

    Viking Weapons Essay

The viking’s most well known weapons are their close combat weapons. Shields, spears, swords, and axes were common weapons among warriors. “Typical Viking shields were 80-90cm (32-36 inches) in diameter.”(William R. Short, Viking Shields). Shields were larger and from the surviving ones from the Gokstad ship, were as big as 94 cm, or 37 in., across.( William R. Short, Viking Shields). There were also smaller shields that were only 28 inches in diameter. “ Most surviving shields are in the range between 6mm (1/4in) and 12mm (1/2in) thick, although shields thicker than 30mm (1-1/8in) have been found. “(William R. Short, Viking Shields). When most shields were created, they were made to specific measurements to fit the body of the Viking and the fighting style. At the center of the shields, there was a dome shaped piece that was called a boss. The boss was made to protect the hand and is inferred that the elongated knob at the end of some bosses were to disarm a sword or snap it in two. The handgrip was usually a leather piece that ran the diameter of the shield and had leather straps so that the viking could take the shield and carry it on his back to use both his hands to wield heavy weapons.…
