Examples Of Early Classroom Observation

The observation of young children can alter exponentially just from one age to the next. For my child observation, I chose to watch 9-year-old Theo. Theo is currently facing industry vs. inferiority. I watched Theo for an hour while he participated in both recess and library time with his class. Theo is average in height and weight to his classmates, but has the greatest volume within his hair making him look super cool. An aspect of the school system that made the surveillance a bit more interesting is that females wear a white shirt and males wear a blue shirt. The first observation I saw in Theo was his excitement to get to the playground by the avid tapping of his foot. Starting on the playground, Theo sprints to a hill with all the other boys in his class. The group splits into two; one group is going to play tag while the other group is going to giggle in a circle. 90% of the group for tag was boys with a handful of girls playing as well. Once the class was done returning and receiving new library books, it was time to listen to their teacher read a book or, they could read their new books they just received. Throughout Theo’s classmates in the library, he possessed several psychosocial traits. Theo spoke to both boys and girls in his class. When sitting at the table, he shared his ideas and laughter within the group of boys. Although not at the table of boys, when Theo moved to the carpet to listen to his teacher, he sat next to Sara. At this point, I think Sara caught on to me watching Theo and was intrigued by me. She would smile at me and I would smile back, though Theo did not catch on.
