Examples Of Controversy Over Religion
Although the article I chose is short, I thought it brought up some interesting topics. Religion today has become a very argumentative subject among politicians and citizens alike, due to the racism, death, and destruction that is now associated with it. The article possibly offended a few people due to its honesty and also because of how direct it is. It gives examples of real life people and their views on religion, and shows how different people perceive religion. In this day and age there is endless amounts of controversy over religion, there are constantly religious conflicts and disagreements going on. Wars have started in places such as Syria, Iran, and Iraq. Muslims are now categorised as terrorists due to the religious group ISIS.

Many Americans do not know the difference between the two Muslim groups, which bluntly shows how ignorant the people can be. They obviously do not know enough about the religion of the people to form a reasonable opinion on the topic. The article also references two biblical cities; Sodom and Gomorrah, which people do not know were destroyed for their sinful ways. The blame for this is put on Sunday schools for not taking their job seriously enough to teach people about this. Not only do we not know much about world religions but it seems as if we know little about our own…

Patel’s lecture made me realize that it is critical to being a human being and living with other human beings to have an awareness and a great sense of respect for all religions. Not being aware of other religion’s practices is like walking through life with your eyes closed. It is not possible to be a well-rounded human being without taking the time to learn about religious traditions of multiple different religions. This is especially important if someone wants to travel to a different country or attend a new church that they have never been to before. According to Patel, people that plan on attending football games should have some sense of different religious practices. Religion is everywhere and if a person isn’t careful or knowledgeable,…

The article that I selected is titled "Gun control is not the answer". The issue of the article is that taking away guns will not stop shooting in the United States of America; therefore, citizens should continue to have guns. The article should be viewed with skepticism because the author of the article is biased and uses fallacy tactics to try to persuade his the audience to agree with him because he's a gun owner and the creator of a gun blog post. He supports the second amendment the right to bear arms, he doesn't agree with gun control. The passage that I selected doesn't support the author's position because it doesn't focus on gun control in America. The article is all over the place it has several rhetoric devices…

This article though could have appealed a tiny bit more to the life of less privileged kids in New York, although it mentioned the phone trucks it could have used more perturbation in some of the paragraphs. The wealthier children in various parts of New York did not have to pay to place their phones in these storage trucks but rather they could merely just shove it in their pocket and not get caught. I thought this was quite unfair , in your article I noticed many of weasel words and persuasive techniques you used to convey your own point of view.…

Religion is a common set of belief held by different individuals available within a society. Religion concerns itself with purpose, cause, and nature considered for the creation of a superhuman agency fitted with several moral codes. The codes provide guidance on how humans should conduct themselves throughout their life time. However, even one person who makes the right choice and puts God first could affect their entire community. Rearrange your perspectives, and dedicate your life to God, and people will notice. As John Wesley stated, “I set myself on fire and people come to watch me burn.” Do not let the frivolities of life distract you, and keep you from loving the Lord “with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind,” and loving “your neighbor as yourself,” as we are commanded in Luke 10:27. I challenge you to regard this one verse as the supreme reason for your existence, and realize that nothing else you could ever do matters more. Believe it or not, that phone call can wait, that quiz won’t alone determine the success of your future career, and that pile of to-do’s will be there tomorrow. This week, put everything else on the back-burner for a change, and pray for increased passion and faith in your own life. In doing so, you will be allowing America to come one person closer to regaining her lost reputation as a nation where pure religion retains a great influence over the souls of…

My best friend in high school, “Alice,” was adopted by a man and his wife when she was three months old. Alice’s adoptive parents were very good to her. It was through her that I learned early on about the importance of foster and adoptive parents for children whose biological parents aren’t around. Whether the parents are deceased or otherwise unavailable, the children of these parents still need caregivers. Relatives aren’t always available. In cases like these, the children are placed in foster homes or are put up for adoption.…

Regan argues that there is a difference between moral disagreements and personal preference disagreements. He believes that disagreements in preferences do exist between people. Someone likes or prefers something and another person may not like it or may be preferring something else. Judging morality as in what is morally right and wrong is different from when judging personal preferences. A person does not need justification to what his/her personal preferences are, because there is nothing wrong or right in preferring something while others not preferring that same thing. However, when it comes to judging morality and the different perspectives of morality in peoples’ minds, a person has to justify and give reasons to why he/she believes that this should be moral or immoral. Regan’s conclusion is that there is a difference between personal preference disagreements and moral judgement disagreements. (Regan, 2011, P.25).…
