Towards the beginning of the book, the dwarves do not have a very high opinion of the hobbit; though, as the book progresses, their opinion of Bilbo slowly grows. By the end, the dwarves have a high respect for Mr. Baggins. When Bilbo escapes from seemingly certain death or saves the group, the dwarves can see his bravery, strength, and intelligence that they thought he had none of. An example would include the time when Bilbo lost his way in the goblin cave, and he escapes what the dwarves picture as Bilbo’s certain demise. That confirms a prime reason that Bilbo proves himself qualified to lead the adventurers, but naysayers still remain.
