Gatsby’s pursuit of the American Dream The Great Gastby , a Novel by Scott Fitzgerald, is about The American Dream and the down fall of those who attempt to reach it’s Impossible goals. The attempt to capture the American Dream is used in many Novels. This dream is different for each character in the novel. In The great Gatsby, for Jay Gatsby the dream is that through wealth and power, one can acquire happiness. For Jay Gatsby must reach into the past and relive and old dream; and, in order to do this, he must have wealth and power. Gatsby show the theme of Abuse of power Gatsby's dream is destroyed because of the unworthiness of his love. The careless attitude of the Buchanan's lead to Gatsby's downfall, by placing the fault of their problems directly on Gatsby, with Daisy pinning Myrtle's death on him, and Tom talk to George Wilson and told him that Gatsby killed his wife. Wilson, in an act of revenge, shattered the Gatsby's dream by placing a bullet into his head and ending his life. The connections that Gatsby made in his life, caused him to rise up the social ladder and be within the grasp of his dream; however the, unwelcoming shoved Gatsby to fall, and destroyed his dream. Though Gatsby is rich, he is of the lower set, and he attempts to join the upper class with Daisy. His desire for a better life stems from his faith that anything is possible if he puts his mind to it, which is also a part of the American Dream. However, Gatsby's dream collapses when he fails to win Daisy and is ultimately rejected by the higher social group. No ill-gotten wealth can help him and though a bullet from George Wilson's gun kills him, Gatsby dies spiritually when Daisy chooses Tom over him. But because Gatsby put it in his mind that Daisy was the perfect woman. He help himself not to be able to move on and he was thinking she is the only girl for me. Gatsby help destroyed his dream by not being able to move on and getting the blame for what she did. You can blame ever one in this novel for the destroyed of Gatsby dream, but Nick who try to help Nick. You can blame Georges for killing Gatsby; you can blame Tom for telling Georges it was Gatsby who was driving the car and not his wife. You can also blame Daisy for not taking the blame for being the one driving and for playing with Gatsby heat and end up picking Tom in the end. You can also blame Gatsby who tacking the blame for Daisy and doing whatever Daisy
