Evidence In Tom's Case
Would evidence have been used in Tom’s case? According to a case dealing with an African American, no it wouldn’t. No one seemed to take into consideration that the man “didn’t match the victim’s description of [her rapist],”(INNOCENT MAN’S EIGHT YEAR PRISON ORDEAL). But this evidence didn’t seem to matter, as they were convinced the man had committed the crime. Yet another case when the victim didn’t identify the man as the criminal. A man “Josh Ryen, attacked by three Caucasian or Latino man [had attacked and robbed him], not one African American [like the one that had been convicted of the crime]” (Wooten). The trail should have waited until Ryen's testimony could be heard. Even after Ryen's statement on who the real criminals were evidence

The case, of which I choose to present, is that of Emmet Till. In the summer of 1955, 14-year-old African-American Emmett Till had gone on vacation from Chicago to visit family in Mississippi. He was shopping at a store owned which was owned by Roy and Carolyn Bryant and someone said that Emmett Till whistled at Mrs. Bryant, a white woman. At some point around August 28, Emmett Till was kidnapped, beaten, shot in the head, had a large metal fan tied to his neck with barbed wire, and was thrown into the Tallahatchie River. His body was soon recovered, and an investigation was opened. It took less than four weeks for the case to go to trial; Roy Bryant and his half-brother J.W. Milam were accused of the murder of which an all-white, all male…

Mr Tom Robinson gets sent to jail do to a false belief the trial at the Monroe county courthouse on august 26 1935. Many are saying because he feels sorry for Ms. mayella ewells. that he deserves to be punished. Is feeling empathy for a white woman a bad thing ? we talked to Mr Robinson after the trial as he states “ just because i’m black, am i not allowed to feel sorry for a white woman ?” many people like him agree. Though mayella did state that he pushed himself on her and beat her up her last statement was "That nigger yonder took advantage of me an' if you fine fancy gentlemen don't wanta do nothin' about it then you're all yellow stinkin' cowards" (18.167).…

Looking back on the trial about Emmett Till it is hard to support the way that everything turned out. I remember the terrible amounts of discrimination that occurred. Going back the story went as told. Emmett Till to me was just an innocent boy. The two men who murdered him should not have been innocent. Emmett Till was a 14-year-old boy who was brutally murdered. The reason was horrific and completely not understandable. Emmett Till was from Chicago and wasn’t used to the tremendous segregation that happened in Mississippi at the time. Emmett walked into a grocery store just like any normal person would. The event that was so claimed “wrong” was that he was so called flirting with a white woman who worked at the grocery store. A few nights after the incident the woman’s husband come to Emmett’s house and took him away. The woman’s husband along with the father in law of the woman murdered Till. They beat him and gouged out his eyes. After that they tied a cotton gin around his neck and threw him into the Tallahassee River. 3 days later his body was found. His mother was extremely devastated and decided to have an open casket funeral to show how brutally her son was beaten. Many went to his funeral and saw the body. Unfortunately many people didn’t believe it and started to support the killers.…

    Tom Robinson's Trial

A theme in “To Kill A Mockingbird,” could be that you should never judge a person by their color. The way people were judge affected Tom Robinson’s trial because all colored people were treated differently than white people back in the day. Reverend Sykes explained to Jem; “I ain't ever seen any jury decide in favor of a colored man over a white man” (Lee 279). Tom was not going to be charged with the crime. This is because everything that was said on his half proved that he was innocent but judges never choose a colored man over a white man. Further, Tom Robinson was not able to win the trial because he is a colored man. The judge got the piece of paper and says “ ‘Guilty… guilty… guilty… guilty…’ “(Lee 282). The color of Tom’s skin changed…

There wasn’t any tested proof of the rape, no evidence that he did in fact was a rapist. The trail knew it, they all did. They all knew the trail was unfair, they all knew that she was lying. Yet, they still went through with it, convicting Tom of raping her, and assaulting her. They still hanged him for a crime he didn’t commit. Atticus tried his best, but the townspeople didn’t like supporting African Americans, didn’t like them at all (proof :) Soon as the trail started people saw Tom Robinson guilty, not even hearing his side at 1st. Only 1st listening the ‘victims’ side, only to see the color of his skin to immediately think he was guilty of the crime. When Atticus finally served his side of the case and showing the jury Tom's side of the case, finally giving him the chance to tell the people what really happened. They still judge him as a guilty African American man with no conscious rather than an innocent man who was wrongfully…

Because of the anti-black views America had, the chances of blacks receiving justice against whites in the criminal justice system were nearly impossible. In the murder case of Emmett Till, the evidence against the murderers - who were white - was overwhelming. The two men named Roy Bryant and J.W Milam brutally tortured and murdered Emmett or allegedly whistling at Roy’s wife, Carolyn (Biography.com). The two men beat Emmett until his face was unrecognizable and shot him in the head. Soon afterwards, they tied a 75 pound cotton-gin fan onto Emmett’s body and tossed his corpse into the Tallahatchie River.…

The white community tried to silence witnesses with intimidation, discredit Emmett with stories about Emmett’s father, and accused Mamie and the NAACP of digging up a body and pretending it was her son’s. At the end of the trial, the jury of all white males spent an hour drinking pop and telling jokes to give the appearance of a deliberation, and then acquitted the two men based on “failure to prove identity” despite obvious evidence that the body was Emmett’s. Rice’s trial had a similar tone. Despite video evidence that the two officers had shot him without cause, the trial dragged on with “outrageous delays” and clear “mistreatment of the family’s experts”. Attorneys questioned the Rice family’s reputation by bringing up Samaria’s past drug charge and accusing her of trying to profit from the trial. After 400 days, a grand jury, manipulated by a corrupt prosecutor, did not indict Loehmann and Garmback. Only this month (January 2017), after years of Black Lives Matter protests and the Rice family’s continuing advocacy, did the Cleveland police department complete an internal investigation against the two men. Loehmann and Garmback were found guilty of negligence, but their charges were not connected to Rice’s murder at all. Both Mamie and Samaria tried and failed to have their cases reopened by the federal government. Rice, like Till, still waits for and deserves…
