Ethical Issues In The Movie The Brave
The movie The Brave One is powerful, strong, suspenseful, and thrilling. In the case of Erica, the line of revenge and justice is taken a close look at. Where is that line that so many speak of? When one loses a loved one, how far would you go? This is the moral issue we are faced with in this movie. When a crime is committed against you, many times human nature will cause you to seek revenge against the one that did the wrong. The severity of the revenge seeking is usually proportional to the severity of the crime. In the case of Erica Bain, played by Jodie Foster, a gang attacked her and her fiancé as they were walking in a park one evening. It is a simple case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time but the outcome was far from simple.

I dearly love the film and maintain that it's one of the great pictures from the last 10 years. I don't know what the director of this movie (Spike Lee) intended the moral to be, but my take on the film has always been that NO ONE does the right thing, and this is the cautionary element of the movie. The racial message about racial injustice is very deep and one that every race should see. The climax of the movie is very powerful and deep. The heat is blazing, tensions are running high (especially racial ones), and under this kind of pressure no one behaves according to common courtesy and decency. The entire film is a chain of uncontrolled outbursts of anger that lead to everyone's misery.…

The novel To Kill a Mockingbird is a novel written by Harper Lee. Nelle Harper Lee was born on April 28, 1926, in Monroeville, Alabama, a town very similar in ways to Maycomb, the setting of To Kill a Mockingbird. Like Scout’s father, Harper Lee’s father was also a lawyer of the town. Lee’s childhood friend novelist Truman Capote had given her the inspiration to create the character Dill. Harper Lee had mention that To Kill a Mockingbird was not just intended to portray her childhood home but rather a nonspecific town in the south. “People are people anywhere you put them,” she had declared in her interview. Courage is the ability to be able to do something that terrifies oneself, for a person to be courageous means that they are willing to put their life at risk…

The book To Kill a Mockingbird shows many great examples of true courage and cowardice. The courageous put others before themselves and listen to their conscience. The cowardly react selfishly and hurt themselves as well as others. Atticus is courageous; he puts Tom Robinson’s right to justice first instead of worrying about what others will say about him. Boo Radley is also courageous; he puts the children’s safety before his own safety and privacy. Bob Ewell is a coward; he puts himself before everyone else. The readers see the contrast of the intentions and end results of these characters. The courageous gain for themselves and others, but the cowardly hurt themselves and others. It is things of this nature that visibly show what true courage is and how cowardice affects people.…

The movie is about two marines indicted for the murder of a fellow marine in their platoon. Private First Class (PFC) William Santiago died because of lactic acidosis triggered by the assault inflicted by Lance Corporal Harold Dawson and Private Lowden Downey. This assault was the result of a direct order by the platoon commander Lieutenant Kendrick. The order was to train Santiago to respect the Code of the Marines and the chain of command. Private Santiago had broken this chain and written directly to the NIS asking for a transfer, in exchange for offering information about an illegal fence-line shooting. When Colonel Nathan Jessep, commander of the marines stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, learned of this letter, he ordered the "training" of Private Santiago. In Guantanamo Bay, this "training" was referred to as "Code Red", which was defined as the discipline of marines within the unit, by the unit, without involving the proper authorities - navy Jag Corp. When the navy learned of Private Santiago?s death, Dawson and Downey were placed under arrest, and moved to Washington DC to be court-martialed. After a thorough litigation by defense attorney, Lt. In the 1995 movie Braveheart, William Wallace presents life 's uncertainties and how we should live each day when he affirms, “Every man dies. Not every man really lives.” Sharon Olds 's poem, “Summer Solstice, New York City,” is an ideal representation of this quotation and the questions that we have about how to live our day-to-day lives. This brief poem is about a man who is standing on a rooftop contemplating suicide and the New York City policemen who are attempting to save his life. At first, a brief summary is all that the reader sees in the story, but upon deeper analysis, the fragility of life shines through. With each detail, or lack thereof, Olds reveals her views on the uncertainties of this life.…

Nelson Mandela once said, “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear” (Mandela). Nelson Mandela, one of the most admired world leaders of all time, went through the same journey to discover true courage that Jem and Scout do throughout the novel. They do this by first having a complete misconception of courage and gradually progressing to being courageous themselves, without really realizing it. To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee demonstrates that true courage is often not appreciated right away through Jem and Scout’s journey to understanding what it really means to be courageous and heroic.…
