Diversity Worksheet

Answer each question in 50 to 150 words. Provide citations for all the sources you use.

1. What is diversity? Why is diversity valued?

Diversity are difference that are built upon something as race, belief systems, appearance and mental capabilities. Diverswity is valued bhecause when diffeences meet there can be great things like with albert einstein and george carver they were both different but gave us great things as the theory of relativiaty then also peanut oil and other peanut derived products.With out these differences we would not have a lot of things that make our lifes more comfortable from many different diversified people.

2. What is ethnocentrism? In what ways can ethnocentrism be detrimental to a society?

Ethnocentrism is a belief that group or society is better than all the other like some countries think that they are superior in ways that another isn’t. This can be detromental to a society becuase one country can invade another in which starts a war for instance Adolf Jhitler thought his race were better than the Jewish people so he caused mass genocide due to Ethnocentrism with hitler thinking he was better than everyone else.

3. Define emigration and immigration.

Emigration is the act of leaving ones country to permantly settle in another My family did this when they left Germany and then permantly lived in America never going back. Immigration is the movement of people to another region or country Immigration is a result of: including temperature, breeding, economic, political, family re-unification, poverty or the wish to change one's surroundings voluntarily.

4. What are some of the ways groups of people are identified?
Ways they are identified are by race, gender, religion and ethinicity. With in these are Five characteristics that go along with these Distinguishing Physical or cultural traits, involuntary membership, in group marriage, awareness of subordination, unequal treatment.I think that when you only identify by these markers that you are typical this is due to generation of this type of identifier.

5. Why do people label and group other people?
I think that people judge other to give them a distinct identity in society. Judging can be positive or negative for the one being judge when it is positive this can give them confidence that they are doing something good then it can be negative which can make someone upset and lack confidence so this can have a negative effect on more.

6. Define culture. Is culture limited to racial and ethnic backgrounds? Explain. Culture is the characteristic that define a group from being types of music, food, language, religion, and social habits. I don’t think that culture is limited to race and ethinic backrounds due to the present in America there are many races that have been here for at least a hundred years and now all of them have merged in America so everyone can be different race but listen to same music or eat the same things.
