Art and design especially photography has always attracted my mind since I was a kid. I always enjoy create a unique and authentic design as well as taking photos of human interest, landscape, and recently products shoot. As a self-taught learner in design and photography, I understand that value of formal education is essential for my future. Hence, I committed to myself to pursue further studies in the United States.

However, the cost of fees, books and materials, and living expenses are daunting especially for International students including myself. Even though I got an academic scholarship from Savannah College Art and Design (SCAD) for US$7,500 per year, I am aware of the remaining amount of fees that my parents need to pay is still high. Hence, I decided to go to Community College before pursuing a higher university level as it is much cheaper.

I do really need this scholarship to help my parents in supporting my education in the United States which consumes a lot of money. Both of my parents were working very hard to support us ever since the monetary crisis that struck Indonesia in 1998 and all I can say is that only by God’s grace and miracle we can still survive. Although my dad had entered the retirement age now, he is still trying his best to support my studies. Hence, this scholarship would be beneficial for my family’s current financial especially after that crisis that affected my dad’s previous business, which permanently closed

Community colleges can be very convenient because the location is basically at home. On the other hand, a university that is a distance away from home leads to higher living expenses. According to the College Board seventy-five percent of the time, the tuition and fees are what make the student decide which educational institution to attend. While the tuition and fees at a university may be higher compared to the community college, scholarship opportunities are offered widely at a university, thus, lowering the cost if the student…

My educational plans as of right now is to either start off at a community college and then transfer to Oregon Institute of Technology to go into Oregon Institute Of Technology right after high school. Going into a community college first would save me a lot of money and it wouldn't be a bad place to start off at. I would like to start off at OIT because it seems like the right school for me and I won't have to deal with transferring later. Regardless of where I choose to go I will be working towards getting my bachelors in dental hygiene. I want to pursue this career because I want to help others feel confident about their smiles and it's something I can see myself being good at. My parents inspire me the most, they've done so much for our…

I am a graduate from Glen Oaks Community College and I would love to continue my education with Glen Oaks and their Nursing Program. I am a very athletic person, therefore in my free time my activities include running, playing sports, coaching and being involved with my family. Working two jobs, one being a Nursing Assistant and Unit Technician at The Community Health Center of Branch County and the other doing in home care for an elderly patient, does make it difficult to find free time. With what little free time I do have I enjoy spending it with my family as they are very important to me. I try to make it a routine to visit with my grandmas to have lunch with them and to drive them around where ever is needed due to the fact that they both cannot drive. I am currently training to run a marathon in May. During softball season, I volunteer with the coaching staff at the Coldwater High School. My greatest satisfaction so far in life, is the fact that I am one of few to have graduated from a college with a degree within my family. I am proud to say that I have paid for me education with my hard work. I hope with the help of Glen Oaks Community College I can obtain a new satisfaction of becoming a nurse. It would be my dream come true.…

I am determined to go to college even if there are some setbacks that make harder for me to do so. For example, when I was in 10th grade I found out that I had scoliosis, and the only way that I would be able to treat it was through surgery. At the time that I had found this out, I had already planned out my sophomore year; I was going to take 2 AP classes and 2 math courses above my grade level. At the time I truly believed that I was going to be able to go through the surgery, take all my classes, and very least get decent grades in all my classes, including my AP classes. However, that semester ended up being my worst.…

Lastly was the incessant worries of the costs. With being a wife and a mother, I knew that living on campus wasn’t practical. I would not have to worry about the costs of that dorm room, that most spend thousands on. I went over the tuition and fees for the university. I found that on average a single student is paying roughly 11,000 a year. That is without room and board. With room and board it came to just under 23,000 a year. Meanwhile, being curious about the costs for the community college I was considering. I looked up the costs and it was just under a third of the universities.…

A New York Times article, Carlos Escanilla thought he was one of those people who didn’t think they wouldn’t go to college. But Escanilla’s friend told him that he should apply at the nearest University. So Carlos did apply for college and he loves the education he had received. The New York Times states in paragraph ten that those who attend a four year state school than a Community College is more likely to have more ambition than other students who attend a Community College. Back in January President Obama made a proposal of having Community Colleges being free for two years. Community College shouldn’t be free because there are so many issues and problems that can lead up.…

Right now in the U.S. College is basically a necessity to getting a good career later in life, but sadly, as it stands now, most U.S. citizens just cannot afford to go to college and further their education. This is a really sad fact in the U.S. right now and its due mostly to the fact of colleges, instead of competing with other schools in prices and tuition rates, compete in having the nicest looking campus and the most amount of student services. Doing this is actually driving the rates of most colleges up and without reform, many citizens in the U.S. won’t even have higher education as an option to them.…

The single most impactful experience in my life is attending Ventura Community College. Nothing has hurt me more. In high school I had taken AP and IB classes and had finished within the top ten percent of my class but I had no idea what I wanted to do. I applied to some schools that I considered to be mediocre so that I could continue swimming, but as the application deadlines ended and most of my friends were being accepted to places such as UCLA, UCSB, and even Harvard, I had realized that I wanted a greater challenge and possibly a greater reward. It was too late, I was going to community college.…
