Police brutality is a form of misconduct within the police department. It could be false arrest, surveillance abuse, sexual abuse, racial profiling, and police corruption. Some police officers take advantage of their authority and innocent people end up paying the price. According to a survey done by graphs.net, 6.6% of police officers will have a complaint filed against them for misconduct. The reason for this behavior sometimes comes down to racism, money, sex, or to prove power. This improper behavior happens because police officers think they can get away with anything that they do. Instead, some are harming and arresting people for no good reason. They make people scared, and now they must think twice about calling the police for help. It also affects the ability of police officers to do their jobs because there is no longer respect between the people and their authority. People are so tired of the misconduct that they lash back at cops. There is no real way to try and save yourself in a situation caused by police brutality because who are you supposed to call to check them when they have the power? It’s sad to say that there are many victims of police brutality and even police oppression because some cops pay the price for other cop’s wrongdoings. But, just like Eric Garner there are countless more victims of police brutality. Our society needs to become more aware and cautious as to who we give power to and who abuses it. Together we need to come up with a solution to this abuse of power because as it is right now no one is safe. It is important to protect ourselves and our communities so that we can prevent these kinds of tragedies from
