The first code of laws

In a land far, far away, in a place called Mesopotamia, The people were scattered and never worked together until, Hammurabi came and changed everything. Hammurabi is known for his code of laws. A code of laws is a collection of written laws and rules. He made these laws because the gods told him to. Hammurabi was known for one big reason. He made the first code of laws that brought the city states together. First, he started writing the laws in 1792 B.C.E and he finished them in 1750 B.C.E. There was a reason he wrote the laws. He claimed that the gods told him to write the laws so they would apply to everyone in the empire. One thing the gods told him to do was use the laws for, unifying his empire and to preserving order. The rules were recorded on a stele tablet, a stele tablet is a huge block of stone that was placed at the temple so everyone could see them. When he showed these laws to his people he claimed that he didn’t write the laws only on his authority but on the words of the gods. Since the laws were based on the gods they couldn't be changed. These laws were so important because they covered trade, payment for work, marriage, and divorce. They also covered crimes such as stealing and causing injury. Therefore, the laws were so important because they brought peace and order to the land.
Hammurabi made the first code of laws for his gods a code of laws is a written document with laws and rules recorded on it. Hammurabi wrote the laws for a few major reasons. First he wrote them for the gods because the gods asked him to. He also wrote them to bring the city states together so they would have a stronger community. Lastly he wrote them to bring peace and order to the land so they could work together.
