There are many reasons why the general public should not have the right to own guns. One reason that private individuals should not be permitted to own guns is because many people use guns to commit crimes and to harm or kill others. These killings result in tragic deaths that could be avoided if there was better gun control and not such easy access to guns. Another reason for preventing private individuals from owning guns is that people use guns for self-defense and can accidentally hurt or kill an innocent bystander. In America, more than 32,000 people per year are killed by guns. Clearly, if we limit the right to gun ownership, then we could greatly reduce this number. Under the current laws, it is too easy for someone to obtain a gun. Surely, if we were to make our gun laws stricter it would result in fewer criminals who get guns. As a result, the need to own guns for self-defense would be eliminated and the number by deaths by guns would decline. For all of these reasons, gun laws should be changed and private individuals should not have the right to own
